@aart, Here are pictures of the south facing ventilation opening in question, from inside and out. (The windows on the left side do not open.) It's covered with 1/2" HC, and plastic window screen for bugs. The roof overhang is 6" and sometimes rain/snow blows in. There is another opening just like it on the other (north) end, but the roof over hang is about 12" and nothing had blown in yet.

Oh, I gave the hygrometer a tap. About 15 minutes later, it said the same as the one on the front porch. Percussive maintenance works again!

I'd just tack up the filter with a few screws into the wood around the window.

You might also, in extremely bad weather or when the wind is coming in the direction that would blow in through that vent, need to cover at least part of it at times, that is a lot of open space when the wind is bitterly cold. You might also consider constructing a wooden baffle either on the inside or the outside to allow for ventilation without direct airflow.

Well, Sam hasn't been on FB since the 19th. He might of run out of not so nice things to say about the election and our governor.

Happy New Year too, and about CS, it's a big 'maybe', unless we can schedule it much later in the year. Late summer at the earliest, probably. Things need to be MUCH better, and most people vaccinated. I miss it too!!!
Meanwhile, stay safe out there!
Every time I have to hit TSC, there are folks not wearing face masks in the store. Bah! Humbug!
