Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

@Candy442 , I agree that distance visiting isn't all that much fun, especially in cold weather!
We had our C-19 vaccines done already. yahoo!
In mid-April we are getting ten White Chanteclers, ten EE bantams, three EE pullets, and three French Marans pullets. Have you ordered birds this year?
I'll probably get some meat chicks later too.
Another warm day, too nice. Then back to normal March, without that snow storm out west.

For State, It's Go Green Go White!
For U of M it's "tbbbbssstttttt" (the "raspberries" LOL :plbb )🤣
The very first night I got to Michigan I was told to say only go blue. Then realized it was 2 universities. But I get confused with Michigan University and University of Michigan. Good info there. I will copy it and put it in my notebook.
I might go for that. Nesting boxes are not hard to build. Rectangular 12x12 divided. I will have to put a table or something for it. I got a bigger tub for the girls hoping it buys me a few more weeks. But my X insist that I need to tackle the fence first to avoid predators. So far financially, all I can do it chicken wire around on treated wood posts. I just need to cover 2 sides. The front of the house have no other choice but to go fancy because it is the front of the house. Those vinyl fences are pretty expensive and I only need to cover from one side of the house to end and then the other to the other end.
Yeah! bring on the pictures!!!!

Oh, forgot to ask you, How about a steel one?

Hey Dreamz how are your chicks going? Got any updated pics of how big they getting. Maybe it'll spice up my poultry fever of getting more babies
Hi Riss, The chicks are doing great. No more pasty butt and they are growing fast. Phoebe is the biggest one. I am trying to put my pictures in the computer and it is a mess with google drive, microsoft, amazon and whatever else man have invented, :lau :lau

You gotta love them. Phoebe flew on top of the heather and had to put a cover on top. Got them a bigger canister today and she decided finally to use the little rooster bars. They are just too funny and needles to say, Pixie was scared of them but since I took them outside and she saw them closely, she is crazy about them. When I was changing the canister, she though we were going outside. You need to get chicks for real. They are so funny.

But I have pictures coming as soon as I can figure this out. Spent my nap time clearing part of the small garage and got the BBQ out in the back and the ice chest, which is one of those monster advertizing canister. I got it while I was working on a wesco which is a gas station. Cleaned a little around the yard and moved inside to clean bathrooms. I am not leaving them for the weekends anymore. I wan to do NO CLEANING on the weekends. I just want to chill if I can.

Yeah they sound like a hoot! It'll probably be a couple weeks that will be before I decide to get some chicks. Once my ducks move outside I'll get my hands some chickies

Got my shots done as well, hurrah for them counting Massage Therapists as health professionals. Lot more clients have been getting their shots as well. And business is starting to pick up again. Had quite a few days where it was hardly worth it to drive into work for the one session. Seeing more and on the books right now. We're even starting to see clients come in who had had covid come in. With all of the clotting issues that had been seen with Covid, its been a big concern for us to be working on a client and having them throw a clot and have it get stuck somewhere important in the brain, heart, or lungs. One there could just ruin your whole week, and that's if you're lucky. Also got Mom started on her vaccination. She had held out to get it from UM AA hospital, but they're not getting a whole lot lately, and finally got here to try the Lenawee County Health Department, and got in with them. IF you're still trying to get your shots, try multiple sources, seems to be the best strategy for finding an appointment.

Also got the brooder cleaned out along with the feeder and waterer. Would just need to wipe off the heat lamp and put shavings in the brooder to be ready for chicks. Not really sure yet on what we're going to get this year. Amy was kinda thinking Cinnamon Queens, but I don't think that they're out until later in the summer.

I haven’t tried steel. I figured the resin will weather better so worth the investment. We use 6 ft kennel fencing for the runs and lock the babies up at night.
you aren’t kidding that vinyl fencing so costly! I was looking into replacing the wood decking with vinyl and no way can afford!

:oops:Some of us had relatives that went to U of M.
You have my condolences.

The problem with metal buildings is that they radiate cold inwards in the winter time. They'll suck all of the heat right out of a coop, and can be very uncomfortable for the birds to be near, such as on perches. I have a friend that has a metal Coop and she had to insulate and line the inside to keep the birds away from the insulation to try to keep from having frozen eggs all the time.
