Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Had a fun adventure today so far. Had to go pick up my brother while I was walking a friend of mine's dogs to get a call from my brother to pick him up cause his golf cart broke down.

To top it off my ex sent me a letter that I got in the mail today which was even more fun for the day :thumbsup

Blackberry plants spread from roots, once they arrive, and grow long thorny stems (eight feet long anyway) that die after producing the berries , so new stalks grow every year, produce their second year, and die. Nice fruit, but aggressive thorny plants, when ignored, like happened here. I'm over them, and want what was a nice perennial and shrub area back. Hoping that some of the good stuff is still alive there.
Can't be done in summer, need to wear 'armor' to deal with it!

The trees I have in the front has a fruit that looks like this.

Personally I think it is too cold in Michigan for an open coop. Obviously birds can survive in such a situation, but that does not mean that it is the best way.

Hawks will be migrating soon, so if you let your birds out folks, better keep an eye on them.
OH, for sure. I saw 2 flying today as I was outside. The run will be fully covered not with netting but a roof to help during the snowy days. I am not doing a full open side but will leave a good portion open. I just need to find about the perches on how I will put them that are easy to clean. I like the idea on the part underneath to catch the poop but not sure yet. Everything looked good in paper but in real life is another hundred dollar bill, :lau:eek:
My back is killing me, so I am hitting the sack early tonight. Love ya all !

Definitely not blackberries, but no idea what it is. Some kind of viburnum?
Our coop has a run area that's actually part of the coop, with east and south sides open. In winter we add doubled vinyl sheeting to the lower six feet of those sides, so it's a walled coop then.

Very nice coop Mary. Thank you for the info. I will keep searching.

Question, if my girls are about 4-6 wks old, one is not like the others. I noticed it yesterday as they were outside with me while coop is being started, eating and bathing

and noticed they all have like a little "crown" or "crest" in their heads and I know that roosters have a huge one compare to hens. However, Blanch does not have one like the others. In top picture where they are bathing, Blanch is in the lower right hand corner and you can see the difference compared to Monica who is laying right next to her.

These two pictures were closed up. compared to the rest that are like Phoebe in the following picture.

Is it because she is a different breed or she is not a chicken? Her legs are kind of military green. Any ideas?

I will be chilling in the back trying to figure the coop out. Might need to remove the boards and add more studs to make sure it is strong enough at the bottom to hold any weight.
