Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Big suprise yesterday! Our bantam broody, who's been sitting on two questionable eggs, had one hatch out just fine, and then she and that first chick jumped out of the nest box she was in, and left the other pipping egg. it was cooled off when I found it and gave it to her anyway. Last evening the poor chick was still alive, but hadn't made any progress getting out, so I chipped it out of the egg. Wet, tired, and cold, back under mama. Today both chicks are so far looking good!
Swore I'd never assist hatching like that, but glad I did anyway, poor little guy.
This hen won't stay broody if I move her, insists on setting two feet in the air in a nest box. Then, chicks are either on the floor or in the box, and she can't be both places at once. My best excuse for helping last night!
Belgian d'Uccles are so cute! And she's a fierce mama!

This afternoon I moved the three of them to a big dog crate in the coop, so they weren't monopolizing an entire coop section. She attacked me big time over the whole thing, bless her, but all is well now.
BTW, years ago I found out the hard way that the wire doors on plastic airline crates are easy for tiny bantam chicks to move through. I now duct tape the lower five inches or so, and the tiny babies are safe inside with mama.
