Hello everyone! I thought I would never sit down in front of this monster today. Have done a few things on my own and I am not happy with it.
To start, while I was out in the morning, I watched through the camera as usual that Rachel got in the middle nest box and sat there for about an hour. I even made the joke I was given here and the church ladies laughed when I said that she must have a book in there. Anyways, when I got home I found another tiny egg. She was in the steps as I found it and I asked her if that was for me and she made sounds. Unknown if it was a yes or a no but I took it anyways. Her last tiny egg, 2 days ago, it has double yoke inside. It was so nice to see that.

So with my little to no woodworking skills, i tried to do some kind of steps for them to use to go to the roost because they are getting bigger and heavier and I do not want them to keep flying up and down. Even though, sometimes I open the door and they fly not to the floor of the coop but right through the door over my head and land in the yard. I did not liked the way it came out but I the idea is there and now I have to either re-do or adjust.

It is not completed because as I sat on a bucket to drill holes and then put the screws, Phoebe was pecking at my derriere. It was raining a little so they were all inside with me and wow, they can be noisy.

And of course, when it is not raining and they are not making holes everywhere, they just stay right on the stairs. Here they were all waiting for Rachel to do her tiny egg, lol

At least today, Phoebe did not made any stunts of flying outside the perimeter. She did very good.
By the way, no other one is laying but they are turning red. Am I missing something?
Is this ok as a predator proof for the door?

I think you're doing a great job! Most people won't put in half the effort you have and you should be proud of what you've done.

Hi Everyone!
Crazy day here as well. Besides my personal problems made a few plans for the yard and the girls. However, the rain did not let me do much. It was on and off so the girls went in and out when I could. Left the door open and got water inside. Put some hay and sand dried up. Also the fan was blowing at high. Anyways, they are crazy.
Rachel, the miniature egg laying hen, spent big part of the morning sitting on the nest over the ceramic egg and I thought she would lay an egg. Nope! She was just sitting on the fake egg.

So this afternoon after spending most of the time in the kitchen cooking roots and well, crazy Puerto Rican food, since I went to GR yesterday

So I went out to give them some of the meat that was at the end of the pot and Rachel squatted for me. So I picked her up but felt kind of rough bottom. She scratched me all over as usual but got her upside down and checked. At first I thought it was just mud but decided to take pictures to make sure. This is just on her middle chest between her legs, thighs, but nothing under the wings or near her vent. I picked up a few and checked them and no other has that. Please let it be mud, dirt!!! Thank you for helping me.

I left the heat plate off in the brooder last night. Everyone was fine, so I took it out this morning. It's still 75 or so in that room, and I figure they are off supplemental heat now. They're four weeks old today or tomorrow, though the Orpington might be five weeks. I'm figuring a couple more weeks, and they move out to their grow out pen in the coop.

I'd set up a huddle box in the brooder and move them out with that next week....or sooner.

Have 2 left frosted flakes bowls left. I have had them for over 20 years. Have no clue where I got them,lol

The Jubilee Orpington is more feathered than the Blue Australorps.

Are the Aussies feathered enough? I think the Orpington might be a week older, but I'm not sure about that.

The Blue Australorp in this picture is named May, for Azygous' beautiful bird in the thread chronicling her lameness.

How long do you keep the littles separated at night from the bigs? I’m afraid of them getting massacred if I let them sleep on the big roost. The big girls are pretty aggressive in the morning and the pullets are just under 7 weeks.
Am I going too fast?
