Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Last night I tried opening the house with the AC off, and gave it up! Couldn't stand the 80F and humidity. After 20 minutes or so, interior surfaces were wet! Hate using the AC, but the heat a humidity are just too much...
And so far the 14 Cornishx chicks are managing out there. Hate to do them at all, but shipped chicks weren't going that well this year.
Crabapples ripe for making jelly!!! Right now! Anyone want to come and pick their own? Enough to go around, even without climbing on a ladder.

It's a tough call.....especially if you are used to having AC.
Welcome to my world.
I love having the windows open. I get to hear the birds, feel a breeze, and not feel like I'm in a box. Today, the coolness outweighs the humidity.
We are about 2 weeks overdue on mowing the lawn, so I really hope it dries up tomorrow! Then, I'll also get to use our new string trimmer.

We took the storm on the chin. We have big box fans in the window frames with blocking around them. One side in; the other out. The wind blew in past the fan blowing out,. This even with a woods and bluff/hill close to the west.

Nothing like the last house we had on the great plains. Storm lines there would shake the entire (very well built) house so it felt like earthquakes. We were on the brow of a ridge with a valley that funneled the wind at us. Ended up putting fixed windows on the west side after the window replacement company replaced the replacement windows twice and still couldn't get them to not leak. I'm sure it was from the house flexing so much. Besides, it didn't cool off at night anyway. There were (are? Lol) quite a lot of storm lines like last nights out there.

I missed the cool off at night there more than I miss the air conditioning here. Just saying. Except days like the last couple. I'm getting pretty tired of sticky along with the heat.

I think last nights was as strong as any straight line wind we had out there, it didn't shake this house like that one because of the topography and because this house has a much lower profile.

My house sits higher up in elevation than most in my area. It was like a wind shear came and took out the trees from one small area in my woods. Ive never seen anything like that before. It was a little scary for a few minutes to be honest living up on the hill without neighbors right next door but all is good now.

fingers crossed that tonight is not a repeat of last. Getting the limbs and rubbish picked up from the driveway since there is no internet….darn it;)

Hii Everyone! No am not poisoning any animal. I wass just blurting out my frustration. I have spoken to the 6 inch neighbor and it is never his cat. He says that someone's cat from the neighborhood. I cannot trap him nor call animal control since cats are property of someone yet they can linger around free range because that is their nature. I know it sounds stupid but that is the law, federal law on top of everything else.

Last night as I was closing teh computer lights began going in and out. Went to check on teh girls and yeap! complete blackout. arrt, for sure I was not able to see crap because it was pitch black to the point that I began praying for lightning so I could see to get to the kitchen door. Then a ligning came and ran to the door and light went out again. Locked teh door and curtain and I was so scared. Cound not see anything in te house. My cell barely had any charge and I only had the reading tablet, so I turned it on and left it on until it ran out of juice. Hot and dark, not my favorite thing. Prayed for teh electricity top be back before the meats on my freezers go bad. Electricity came back around 215am. That was a relief. 336 had to get up and check on Hub and woke him up for he was going to be late for work. Went back to bed but could not sleep, so got up and was in HD by 6am. Came back by 730 to get teh girls out after cleaning up branches and re-doing teh temp run that the wind took it all down. All is good and hopefully no electricity goes tonight even with more rain and stormy weather.

Why are my girls still giving me soft shell eggs? Phoebe the leghorn last she laid an egg was 2 days ago. Should I be concerned?

The power restoration update says Saturday evening now. :barnie

Thank goodness we have a generator. We'll run it 3x a day: morning shower, evening meal prep, and some at noon to keep the fridge and freezer contents safe.

To help with integration, I'm putting the afternoon snack (either their feed or their feed wetted as a mash, depending on if we have running water) along the separating fence between the littles' and adults' area.

I really don't want to put Lark, the low hen who is pecking the chicks, into a time out. I can, and will probably have to, but if I can avoid it, I'd like to.
