So @Sally PB ...how goes the chicken and dog integrations?
First, the dog stuff, because that's all fun.
Freya is adjusting very well. That was not her name at the foster care, but I think she's learning it pretty quickly.
We're learning about walksies! We like walksies! She is also doing fine in the outside to potty department. No accidents at all.
On to chickens...
Last night I got the fence down in the run. Gee, I love my headlamp! I got the new stuff in. Yup, they have a cluttered run! I got Lark (low hen who pecks chicks) in the small crate in the coop. The red light on the headlamp makes getting birds off the roost easy.
This morning, I went out about 20 minutes early and adjusted where I put some stuff, and filled waterers and the feeders in the run. One thing I kept in the same spot is the chicks HN waterer. They could find food, but I didn't want them to search for water.
When everything was in a good spot, I sprinkled a lot of feed on the ground in random places in the run. Then I opened the pop door for the littles, and the people door for the adults, since the coop was still divided.
Then I sat in the chair and waited. The chicks came out first, then Darl, my roo. Then my head hen, then second hen. Everything went pretty smoothly.
After they'd all been out for a bit, I set up the big crate (2.5x4, so 10 sf) for Lark. It was quite a struggle to get her into it, and she is not happy. Right now she is upset because she can't get to a nest box to lay.
Just before lunch, I took down the divider in the coop. Lock up might be interesting...
