Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Congratulations on the integration, Sally PB. Hope mine goes as smoth as yours next year, lol
Everything seems to going well, so far. Lark is going to be in that crate for 3-4 days, at least, I bet.

I skipped the chickens' snack time today to get a bunch of other stuff done. Tomorrow I'll be putting gobs of mash-snack in various places. I plan to put some around the outside of Lark's crate and some inside to see what she does about them eating near her.

@aart, what signs might tell me that she has changed her tune about the littles? And how long is long enough to see if this is a lost cause?

Dang, I don't want to lose her, but I can't have her hurting the chicks. When she grabbed them through the fence, she held on and pulled feathers.

Not something I can estimate over the net....kinda gotta play it by eye.
Birds will peck to establish dominance, the pecked bird needs space to get away. As long as there's no copious blood drawn and/or new bird is not trapped/pinned down and beaten unmercilessly, let them work it out. Every time you interfere or remove new birds, they'll have to start the pecking order thing all over again.

Thanks.

The littles have a lot of hiding places, places out of line of sight, and spaces that are just big enough for them to get in (behind a pallet leaned against the run fence).

I would really like to try letting Lark out in a day or two...? On my integration thread, I believe LaFleche suggested keeping her in the crate for a week. @aart, I know you're not here to see, but what are your thoughts on keeping her in a crate, in the run?

My problem would be if she were seriously hurting one of the chicks, I might not be there or be close enough to hear it.
