Nice dog drawing Silly!

Thanks everyone. The chicken is not tacky or sticky and does not smell bad in any way. I am just wondering why it is more shiny than I remember in the past.
I will have to ask more details at the store, it is fresh and not prewrapped.

Nice pic silly, I remember voting on your Korn drawing. Can you believe it's been half a year since CS! Yeah, Steelhead on flies in the snow on the Platte. Lots of fun but cold. Freezer's full of deer and more to come (I hope) with late doe. In my absence I miss out on so much news. Not much here except:

I still have a few rabbits left if anyone wants a Flemish Giant or one of my FG/NZ mixes. Also, I have an 8 month old purebred Toggenburg wether that needs a new home. He would make a wonderful companion animal for another goat or other livestock. He's disbudded and up to date on CDT shots. Call me if you want to talk turkey. 231-828-5609 or [email protected]

Take care friends...John
Thanks John, I remember you voted, I made it to the top ten, which was my goal! So I was a happy girl!

Too bad we're so far apart.. I wouldn't mind a FG rabbit to help with my litter size.

Chicken vs Window

I was heading out to milk my cow, and was passing by my layer coop when I thought that they can be let out to free range. So, with the milk pail in one hand, and the udder wash in the other hand, I opened the door....

Crash!!!
1000

1000

1000

I stood there covered with glass and in shock.

I went on the steps and looked in, to see if there was a dead chicken under the window. Nothing there, no blood, zip, nada, I looked for each chicken to find any bleeding, again, no blood, zip, nada. Dumb chicken!!! I picked up 38 pieces of glass. I still have not fixed the window yet, dealing with the chicken coop first. *sign* The bigger window shattered a last year by a flying pebble from a lawn mower. It shattered in Billion pieces.

Lookie what just got delivered!!

Been working every night on a last minute

You are not having a very good month so far, hope it improves.

I got my first egg from my rose combed leghorns hatched in June.

Just read through over fifty posts....so here is my two cents.

  • I have a dog with separation anxiety too. I use benadryl as a sedative for my 75# pit bull...he was abandoned and then in the animal shelter for over four months. Due to the stress and the fact that he can be "dog aggressive" (was an intact male) so he spent most of his time away from people (his preferred pack members) in his fenced area. He caused trauma to his mouth with continued destruction to the fencing and chipped/broke his teeth. We have had him for over a year and discovered: he hates gun shots (from hunters), fireworks, hot air balloons and any form of confinement, having ate his way through two collapsible wire crate (broke the welds) and a plastic travel crate. He has had one tooth extraction (broke off an incisor)....he now gets 50-75mg of benadryl and a Kong ball filled with PB. Not to jinx myself, but it has worked for over three months and doing well

  • Very nice looking fish OPA.....I'd be torn whether to eat it OR mount it

  • Love the Favie hens....I'm a sucker for beards, bootsor top hats in a chicken, lol.
  • Sorry about your blue hen Kimmie....I sob like a baby with each death around here. I have a "special" chicken, my cross beaked EE hen. Thought she would pass as she looked horrrible during molt and lost weight, but with TLC she is back and fully feathered, better than ever.
  • As for the broken window.....I'm pretty sure I would have peed myself to hear/see the window shatter like that. Glad to hear that there wasn't any fatalities from that crash.

Figured out what was stealing my bantams....a juvenile hawk
somad.gif
Caught it in the act of plucking the feathers off of my booted bantam hen and only noticed him because my Muscovy drakes where "rubber necking" at the fence and ALL of my other flock members had fled the scene and the run looked empty. I ran out the door like a literal screaming banshee and the hawk fled the scene whilst I buried my dear hen. Was shocked because there wasn't a scratch on her, but she had a presumed broken neck due to the floppiness of it. Solution: DH and myself spent hours this weekend with wildlife netting hung like a teepee over our 100' run....only took 120 zip ties and 1400' of netting

It took hours in the sleet and mud, cursing like a sailor.....BUT its done and none too soon. That hawk is a determined soul and returned three times Sunday while we were working, looking for a chicken diner. Haven't seen it once today!!
