Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It was 36 degrees and bucketing down rain here for hours this morning, had to go in to work briefly and got saturated. I spent 45 minutes on the tractor scraping the 3" thick slush away so that it would not freeze solid when the temp dropped - as it is doing now, and snowing instead of raining. Transitional weather is the pits, both for us and for our livestock. Thank goodness the tornadoes skipped us, those poor folks down south.

It was 57 when I went out to let the chickens out. Wind was 25mph and several branches were down. Including a 6 foot limb that missed the Jeep by just a few feet. From then on the temperature kept dropping and the wind kept increasing. Shortly after I came in the power went out. It was out all day. Finally got it back after 5pm. Then it takes an hour or so to get the internet and wireless gizmos to work again. Hopefully it stays on.

I hope everybody weathered the storm.

Yikes! Glad your car is OK. And glad your power is back. We got lucky, and our power only flickered

That Jeep was tagged by a fallen limb about 2 months after I moved here. Big ole dent in the hood.
Today is sunny but still windy. Blowing a good 15mph. A few more branches on the ground. Still a lot of people without power. I feel bad for the people who got hit by those tornados down south.

That chicken soaker is pretty clever.

The radio is saying that tomorrow will bring high winds of 25-40mph with gusts over 60. They were saying to expect power outages. I hope not, I don't have gas for the generator.

I'm going a bit stir crazy here. No gas to go anywhere. No money to buy gas. Still waiting for my allowance to get here. Hopefully I won't have any major expenses like I did last month. I have to get used to living on a budget and yet plan for contingencies. Either that or get a wife. :gig
It was true. Went to my therapy and it was windy like hell. Then Saturday also, went to Muskegon and slided a few times on my road which was all ice.

A neighbor is getting a Generac. His nephew is doing the work. (Nephew has done work for us too.) I asked him which brand of generator he prefers, since he does install, repair, deals with getting parts, etc. He said hands down, Generac. Good enough for me!

He'll be doing ours as well, when we get it done.
Send him this way next, lol I have a generator but do not know if it is enough for the whole house.

A crew came out and got the trees off the power lines. They had to cut the power, but it was only off for about an hour and a half.

I didn't sleep well last night, worrying about the whole mess. I think I'll sleep much better tonight.

There was a limb on a totally different tree on a totally different line. They took care of that too. It had been there for a while, so this was a bonus.

The upside of this: We have some more "until recently" standing dead wood to cut up for firewood.

Hi lovelies!

I let the girls out yesterday and one of the new Wyndottes grabbed little mama sebright by the wing and would not let go no matter how much I screamed at her. Chased her and grabbed her by the legs with head down and trust me, I wanted to do her neck so bad but didn't. Put her inside and all the wyndottes too while the others stayed outside until 530pm when they all went inside for the night. I just went in to lock the house and left the other outside since it was not too cold for the night. Today tried also and the same Wyndotted pecked real hard on Sophia the Naked neck. CHased her again and this time I locked her up in her cage. Left the others out and they were all fine. Seems like she is a good instigator or the others wait for her sign to gang up on the other ones. Wyndottes are terrorists! :lau

Then around 4pm, I put the Wyndottes in their run and let the accused and guilty Wyndotte out on their run so she could get water and some food before bedtime. The others were still outside having fun. They know the sound of the sliding door and they run to my backdoor all the time. I went outside and ran towards a tree and they all ran after me. of course, they are not so dumb (not really) and once noticed that they had ran after me and I had no treats they completely ignored me.
I came inside and let them go in on their own. Locked the doors once they were in and called it a night while I am watching a 4 part documentary that I am very interested in. The Wyndottes will spend the night out on their cage in their run since temps will not be below 30 tonight either.

I feel bad for those under those severe storms. I know how hard it is. I lived in Texas which is not too far from tornado alley and I have lived through many hurracanes myself and it is never fun. Well, I guess for Puertoricans it is always fun because besides getting wood to protect property and food and water, they also gather plenty of alcohol and make it a playing dominoes party. :lau :idunno

I am finally working on opening boxes from the move a year ago and it has not been too much fun. Lots of laundry and I am not selling anything. I am just going to either give away or take to shelters in Muskegon for the needy.

Anyways, I love you all and should be back tomorrow or the next day.
