Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

A crew came out and got the trees off the power lines. They had to cut the power, but it was only off for about an hour and a half.

I didn't sleep well last night, worrying about the whole mess. I think I'll sleep much better tonight.

There was a limb on a totally different tree on a totally different line. They took care of that too. It had been there for a while, so this was a bonus.

The upside of this: We have some more "until recently" standing dead wood to cut up for firewood.
Dang! And you guys just cut wood not long ago,lol Oh, well, it has to be done continually in order to have warmth! Love ya girl!

I kind of always wanted a real wood burning fire place for warmth. I got nothing and I am soon to leave this earth, lol Maybe I can make on home which might not be feasible since it is a manufactured home and it might not be safe to do so. I will keep dreaming. I want to find a small cabin in a wooded area so I can just chill for a weekend. Any ideas?

The five trees taken down were all alive, so they won't be burnable until next fall, at the earliest. We're a little light on wood right now, this will help.

Are you seriously looking for a cabin in the woods? Talk to a real estate agent and tell them what you're looking for. But start by looking online. Good luck!

That Jeep was tagged by a fallen limb about 2 months after I moved here. Big ole dent in the hood.
Today is sunny but still windy. Blowing a good 15mph. A few more branches on the ground. Still a lot of people without power. I feel bad for the people who got hit by those tornados down south.
I do, too. Just horrible devastation 🥺

While wood fireplaces are romantic, they are also dangerous enough to raise your fire risk, along with insurance costs. And if they don't have a proper insert they waste a lot of energy up the chimney. If you want the comfort of a fire without the risk and cost, they make some really nice gas fireplaces that kick out good heat and can be used in just about any home, as they do not require a smokestack. And you can get a gravity feed one that will work in power outages.

There is nothing affordable atthis time. I have done lots of searches. I might just need to rent one.

What in the world am I doing up this early? Have no freaking clue. Girls have an automatic door and all is locked from the outside. They can get up and do whatever. I even left a light on in the run so they can see if it is a bit dark. I am just mumbling I guess :lau

This house came with a wood stove in the living room. A wood stove is a good source of heat if you have a well built unit that is properly installed and maintained. Plus have good fire extinguishers on hand just in case. A fan or two can move that nice warm air around the house. I rely on my stove for heat and keep that propane bill as low as possible.

Today's chores include repairing the tarps on the wood piles. A couple were shredded in Saturday's wind storm. I also have a good bit to cut and split. Feeding that woodstove can be a PITA in some ways. Kinda like chickens and pets.

Well, the wood I had on hand is now cut and ready to be split. Took 3 tries to get to it though. First trip to the garage I saw a bunch of downed branches including a couple of widow makers that were out of my reach. Toted all of that to the burn pile. Second trip out I started up the car and let her run for a bit while I cleaned and sorted hand tools that I was too lazy to put away from before. Third try was the charm. Got everything cut and ready. But my hands were cold and fingers numb so I'm in and wishing I had a beer.
