Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Sunday was not a good day here. A young husky came running down the road then into my yard. Scattered the flock and killed the lame hen first, then got a bite on several others. Oddly the pup came to me when I called him off. About that time, a couple of city people showed up to claim the dog. I told the guy that his dog killed my chickens and all he said was "oh". They put the dog in the car and left. I don't know where they came from or where they went. I had not seen these people before.

The aftermath is 2 dead hens for sure. One slightly injured rooster. All 6 ducks missing. One hen still on the nest and only 5 chickens left. One uninjured rooster who proved to be a coward.

Without knowing the people or where they were staying the sheriff can't do anything other than note that there was a stray dog. Call if I see it again. One more reason why I hate city people.

That is one of the reasons I don't free range my chickens. My idiot neighbors have like 10 dogs and have pretty much no control over them. They come into our yard all the time and bother the chickens, and even tried to attack my dog one time!

I live in the woods at the end of a dirt road. I have no immediate neighbors. The closest year-round people are better than a 1/4 mile away and none have dogs. That's why I think it was a weekend visitor.
If any of the birds were injured and fled to the woods then I'm sure they were finished by the local wildlife. The 2 carcasses that I did find were taken to the far end of my woods and offered to critters. At least the wildlife can use them.

Hello all,
We caught this somewhat large bird incoming on the birdfeeder cam...and have no idea what kind of bird it is! Does anyone have any ideas? We live in the lower MI area
