Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Just took my gal to the vet today to have a plugged nostril looked at. I gently dug at it several times here, but it’s justs so inflamed. He flushed her nasal cavities, and inspected them and took some of the gunk under a microscope to look for any bacteria, everything looked all good so he prescribed an anti inflammatory drop to put in her nostril 2-3 times a day so hopefully that helps her

My mom came to visit me for a couple of days and has never been a "farm girl," but lookit her holding cute Lil Rocket and watching over these birds like a good chicken tender.

We went to the beach today, saw some great waves and had lunch downtown. Was gorgeous out today, but I've been lazy like Raz!

Switched the birds to a mix of 28% game bird and 17% layer (protien). I have one girl who just looks like all her feathers have dropped out and she's starting to be picked on. Cannot have that!

Pickles, I hope your girl feels better soon!

A couple questions for those hatching in the spring..
If your incubating when do you set up your hatch? Overnight lows are steady at 40, 50, 60 degrees? I've got a brooder I can set up in the house but I would rather use the brooder I built in the barn/garage. I have heat lamps and brooder plate available.
I feel like I can kinda answer this. When I had the lady I originally got my birds from, she set up a hatch in early/mid May to be ready by the end of May. I moved my birds into our insulated (but not heated garage) on day 2 of life. I had a warming plate but no lamps. It worked out well because I was actually able to move them into the coop outside around 6 weeks because the overnight temps were pretty steady, and the birds were flying out of the broader at that point anyway.

That helps, thank you. I was kinda thinking late March early April being Southern Mi. but maybe that's pushing too early with our weather changes. Specially if we have a hard winter like they are threatening. Just trying to plan out ahead so I can swap my Rooster's out and get a couple breeder pens built. Thanks again for the insight.

We've pulled quite a few ticks off in the last few weeks. Usually see a lot of ticks in spring, and a second smaller rise in the fall. Including 2 deer ticks, fortunately dead, from a dog who's Bravecto dose expired last month.

IF you use oral tick medication, keep in mind that Bravecto is only effective against Lone Star ticks for 2 months. So a monthly product may be better. They are very effective!

Raz, if your test results had been bad you would have heard about that right away, I bet.
