Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

A friend of mine lives in Allegan County. She texted me that Allegan County Health Department is telling people not to shovel, as they might have a heart attack. She said they didn't specify any group of people, like those with heart conditions, just "people."

I think Allegan County wants to help the economy: snow blowers cost more than shovels.

I know there is always a risk when people shovel, especially for some age groups. I always worried about my dad, but he liked to shovel and would do it anyway despite his heart condition.
We did lose a friend from church one winter. He had a heart attack while shoveling. Mid forties. His boys were both still teens.

Lawsuit land: If a municipality tells people that they need to shovel their sidewalks, and somebody dies while doing it, could it be an issue? Seems like litigation is a team sport sometimes in the USA.

Ah, I hadn't thought of that angle. But a lot of people in Allegan County don't have sidewalks. They do have driveways and walkways that will pack down to ice.

I just went uphill to the green house to broom the snow off the roof there. Walking up that hill in the snow was like using a stepper.

I live in rural area so I'm glad I don't have to shovel snow off sidewalks lol. I did however shovel our porch/steps. The snow was deep enough to cover the bottom step so I didn't want me or my dad to not be able to see it and trip. Hopefully my dad will talk to someone about plowing our driveway cause as I have to walk across to check on the birds I noticed while the top layer is fluffy underneath its soo compacted that its a bit slippery across the driveway.

Yeah, the stuff near the not-yet-frozen ground was wet, packing down to ice. That's why hubby and I have to get that shoveled off. Or we'll be stuck here until it thaws.

My mom and another person I know both slipped yesterday. Neither were wearing proper winter shoewear. My mom was wearing like slipper boots. While the other person I know was wearing crocs. I still wish i could get a pair of those crampons for my boots. They have less grip than my tennis shoes but with the deepness of the snow im not to keen on getting snow in my shoes to fend off ice so i take it slow when i have to walk out there lol

Living in the 'boonies' is the best! We too have to manage our walkways and driveway, for us. And back to litigation: if a visitor or delivery person is injured on our property, it's on us.
We live here because we love winter, right?! \/

I love it. For about 6 months I lived down by Lansing with a friend and man I never realized how tough shoveling such a large area was. I was used to a small-medium porch and steps. Not a porch, steps, driveway and sidewalk. I remember thinking it was as hard as stacking firewood in the snow.|

The best part was afterwards drinking hot chocolate my mom sent me lol
