Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Ok dint have quoting down. We have coyotes here. So eerie at night. When I hear them im up all night since I have goats and mini horses also
Welcome Jorey. I also have coyotes & minis (horse and jack). The predators are all around up here, so we always need to keep them in mind. So far (knock on wood) only our barn cats seem to fall victim. Since October of last year, we have had 3. The last one hasn't been around for about a week now, so thinking he's a goner now too. Everyone but the cats get locked up tight each night. It's the best that we can do, and so far it has worked.

Update for everyone else on DH's crushing leg injury that happened back mid October. He's in a splinted boot contraption, and Doc said he can put 50% weight on it now with his crutches. Hopefully will be starting therapy in January.

This is the last cup of coffee I can share with you this year. Tomorrow the pot will be on early and I look forward to sharing the coming year. Happy New Year everyone

Tap - we had a similar issue with my rottweiler. Her kidneys were failing and thus not cleaning the protein from her system. Her instinctual reaction was to drink more water to dilute the protein. We would come home and if one of the kids had left the toilet seat up she would have drank the toilet dry (in addition her own bowl of water).
That was actually one of many things they checked. The only thing left they suggested they could check was his thyroid but his symptoms don't really match so we didn't at this point. I know exactly what you mean about the toilet!

But he does both toilets and his dog dish!
I am so behind on this thread from my parents spending a week at our house for Christmas - I don't think I will be able to catch up! The four bantam mottled cochin cockerals in our basement are getting a little rowdy, so seeing if there is any interest in this guy. He was hatched October 27 from eggs purchased from Amy Knoll (http://www.westknollfarm.com/Mottled-Cochins.html)
He's a handsome fellow. Two of my birds came from West Knoll. They are both Sizzles.

Good to hear from you Bretheren, I was just thinking about you the other day and wondering how things were going.

I sent you a message scfisarah, now does anyone have any cochin hens...please..?

And thanks for the kind words everyone..such a great thread..and best part is I've seen no drama!
I ended up with four boys and one girl, so I will definitely be keeping my one girl. I was hoping to keep all the boys until they grew out more, but they really do need more space now that they have some hormones coming in.

So many of you have heard about us finally getting our flock started. Well, let me give you a little back ground... I was raised in the country. Hunting and farming are just part of life... Well Kelly was not. She was raised in Mt Morris, for those that don't know that is near Flint. She has always been a city girl but with a love of horses. So, after living with her in her hometown for a year I finally convinced her that moving back to my hometown might make it easiest for our animal endevours. So two years ago we moved back, although the only place we could find was in town. So, our animals are all located at a daycare center that my mom works for... The kids love it and I like having the animals exposed. Ok so now that I have that all out, I have been raised with the whole circle of life ideals, she was not. So the other night we went to close up the birds, and Kellys favorite bird Fancy was missing...We spent almost an hour and a half looking in and around the coop, in trees, etc trying to find her. I finally told Kelly that we were going to have to wait till the next morning and hope that she had found somewhere else to roost. So I went back to finish closing up the coop and heard that deep throaty noise that we all know too well. I get looking again and she managed to get in the storage area of the shed and had squeezed into a gap in bags of wood pellets that go in the stove for heat, So after some work moving and restacking bags, Fancy was finally free. Meantime Kelly was sitting in the car waiting for me crying thinking her poor bird had fallen prey to one of the wild ones... Lets just say that with her getting that attached in 2 weeks, I worry about what will happen when we get our meat birds.

Glad you found the bird.

Start talking about it now... don't name them if that helps. It may make it easier if you send them to a processor as well.

Silly I am going to send them in and I told her that she couldn't name them. If she does I take no responsibility LOL I also might just have to tell a little white lie and tell her that I dropped ours off and bought someone elses LOL
