Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Snow does not fall off my hoop roof as well as I was hoping. I picked up a bunch of card board peices, big 3x4 peices. Going to fit them under the hoops between the tarp and hoops that is, in any spot that look like it could become a snow bowl... I may just pick up a few more pipe and fit them in the spaces as well. will be fun getting them around the top wood though. We'll see.
Did you go the route of the conduit or the cattle panels?

I lost power around midnight, scared the heck out of me, there was a huge boom and a flash. It tripped 2 of my breakers and fried a surge protector so I didn't realize I had power till almost noon. It seems like incubating eggs is a call to lose power but on the good side, unless its out for days it doesn't seem to affect them too badly. It probably depends on what stage they're at. Hope everybody has their power back.

Byfmom - I'm not really sure what kind of chicken she is that lays the pink egg. She was a trade from a friend and they just called her a production red. I kind of thought an Isa but I don't know for sure.

Feel better 1mutts. I sure hope you have a better day tomorrow and some real rest.....and hopefully all the eggs are ok.

We had lots of wind and rain and snow here. I left every closed up most of the day. I did open the coops up so they could come and go between coops but no one really ventured outside. It was too cold to anything really. DS wanted to ride snowmobile but decided he didn't want to dress as warm as we said he had to. So we spent a good part of the afternoon looking at old pictures and doing some fun interactive weather map geography.

Our pheasant disappeared after the warm up and snow melted. It's been a week since we've seen him. Hopefully he moved on to a safe place and the coyotes didn't get him. We have however had more squirrel and rabbit tracks around. Also the mice have discovered the coop. I have never had a mouse problem before. Now I have found two in the feed container and there are tracks everywhere. I think I need to find some traps to put out every night.

This is our first winter with chickens. We have a solid coop that doesn't have any drafts, it has good ventilation, there's a good, deep layer of bedding, and their water is on the coop over a cookie tin warmer with a 25 watt bulb. We aren't using a heat lamp, and I'm worried about our 2 ladies.

But it's soooo cold.

Just reassure me that they're fine, please.

Is she in with a roo? Will you hatch me out 2 of her eggs for CS?

I would love to have an egg that color!
I have to add on to my coop this year... I plan on bringing a few babies home from CS this year!!! I am so excited.
I hope my roo ratio is down this year from last years... 9/12 chicks I got last year were roos...

I guess I should pick the opposite of the ones I would normally pick...

I'm looking for a speckled sussex rooster for the spring or some hatching eggs. I'm in western Michigan. Does anyone have one of these or know someone? Thanks!
Morning! Welcome to the group :) I've been a little MIA on here lately. As soon as my speckleds start laying again (usually once it warms up a bit) I will be hatching and offering hatching eggs. I also usually have a bunch at Chickenstock!

try RIRJen. We got our pair of ss pullets from her and she is a lovely person with lovely birds!

Thanks! :) Good to know I can still fool people into thinking I'm nice! LOL

I started a new project of building goat milking/grooming stands to sell. I've already sold 2 of them :)

Snapped some pictures this weekend of the birds :) We just separated out our showgirls into their own coop away from the silkies and have a blue silkie rooster covering them. This is my daughter, Hannah, and one of our partridge hens :)

light Blue pullet....

and the birds out enjoying the cold day...
