Hi everyone! I'm new to backyard chickens and I live in Michigan. My husband and I plan on getting chickens in the spring. I live in the Imlay City area. Can anyone recommend a good place or person to get chickens. We want chickens for eggs. Eventually I would like to show my chickens but I am starting out slow.
I started out this time with guineas, they can be aggressive with each other, but mine at least ignore the chickens. Beware, they don't return to their coop at night like a chicken will, you need to keep them in for several weeks and then usually train them to come to the coop. The guinea fowl forum and site has articles about thisMy step daughter is terrified of chickens, mind you she is 15. I hope the Jersey's don't scare her too much LOL. I only have one guinea right now and she does great with my hens. I have heard that they can be a bit more aggressive. Mine are for the same reason as yours. I want them for guard birds, also to keep the pests away.
You're kidding, right? I'm ready for spring. Hopefully it doesn't get this far east.News of 10+ inches of snow has got me daydreaming about adorable baby chicks and spring *sigh*
I've never ordered birds from them, but Strombergs has partridge cochins. I would like some too, if you weren't so far away we could combine order. With all this talk of chicks, it makes me want to start hatching already. By the way, does anyone know where I can get Large Fowl (Standard) Partridge Cochins that are decent quality? I saw Partridge Orps and fell in love, but, since I obviously can't afford $1,000 a pair, I've decided Partridge Cochins are just as beautiful for a fraction of the price.

Not sure what size dropper is ideal, but there's this surplus site that carries a number of odds and ends type items. Here's an old style dropper bottle.A little late to this discussion, but i was thinking an eye drop bottle would work nifty too? That's my hope, anyway. Never considered a food color bottle! Otherwise i'll have to find an infant med that has the dropper bottle and just use the bottle. Kinda pricey? There has to be a place to buy those dang dropper bottles!
