opa great advise for turning eggs, i have a egg turner with my incubator.. are they reliable

Most commercial egg turners tilt the eggs about 45 degrees and then in the opposite direction to 45 degrees at a rate of one cycle per hour. I would never assume a turner is working. Check them occasionally to ensure that they are.

i have to confess that I haven't hand turned my eggs much........ I need a turner cause I'm gone 10 hrs in a day.... Of course... hatch rate can be severely affected when DH tries to "help" and turns up the heat to much and it hits 102....... I hope they didn't get baked. I cooled it down again but they're suppose to be in lock down now so I have no idea now if they'll survive.

Your little girlie is SO adorable! I don't remember, is she your first goat, or do you have others? If she is your first, just know that they are definitely herd animals and she'll need a buddy!

Ok, so went to pick up the chickens today. I am going to be honest. I try to put on a rough exterior when it comes to my farm animals because obviously we have to remember we have the circle of life deal. Well when I got there it was your typical dairy farm. Right now with all the mud rather than driving to the coop we loaded the cages into the back of her ATV and headed off for the coop. We pulled up to the coop it was actually a nice metal sided building about 10x15 Opened the door and my heart sank! The poor chickens are not allowed to be outside at all they live indoors full time. To make matters worse, all but 4 were missing a significant number of feathers on their backs and vent areas, one was pecked to the point that the wing bone is actually exposed at the joint! So, I asked myself, what are you going to do they all look like S**T! I could hear the farmer saying screw it in my head but the animal lover telling me I couldn't let them stay there like that. SO, we loaded em up and they came home. The lady breeds mini and standard aussies so I think that is part of why they lived indoors. All their combs are lacking color and they are looking pale. I threw together a lean-to type coop for the night in my fenced run since my other birds all free range that way I can keep them separate. They hen with the bad wing was brought to the garage. She has been named Nemo since he had a lucky fin and she now has a "lucky" wing. She has ointment applied to it. We will see how they do in the coming weeks. I did end up with one Barred rock Roo, He may end up being free to someone or maybe soup. We will see. Oh the joys!

I wonder how people can do that to their animals.. i guess i expect to get chickens in the condition i would raise mine.. but that isnt always the case. i got some chickens in nov.. that looked pretty bad.. now they are all feathered and looking good.. amazing what some protien will do in thier diet.. they probably fed them scratch only.. that is what the guy i got mine from was doing.
now they are fattened up and feathered.. and laying. those hens were lucky you came along.. Good luck..

opa i was wondering how reliable the turner is.. because the lady that gave it to me said she would only have a couple hatch out of a dozen.. so make me wonder if she did her research..or if it had something to do with turner.. i like the egg carton idea.. side to side.. i guess when i try to do a hatch. i will have a good back up plan if my turner isnt working..

Nope, not our first :) right now she's got a silkie down there with her to keep her company. It's cute because they sleep together :)

Your right, maybe thats what upset me. I mean honestly I don't have an issue with someone leaving birds out all the time or things like that as long as they are in good health. These are just pathetic. But, whats a guy to do LOL I guess happy Valentine's Day to me
