Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hey everybody, so I was in family farm and home for feed, and came home with 4 bantam assortment chicks. I better make sure I take as few trips as possible in there!

I also have a little one with what is I think an impacted crop, any thoughts as to boy or girl on this one? I am thinking boy.

Did you notice that the toes on his(?) right foot are curled? It may not be too late to shoe it. If you can straighten the toes out, then it should work.
Hi Farmer Allen, glad you joined in

We call it "Spring" up here - really it just means another few months of cold
Welcome farmer allen.

Good luck Josh

Hey everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself to my fellow Michiganders! I'm in the process of getting some chickens for the first time. I want to have fresh eggs, love animals as do my kids and it will be a fun experience!

I live on Bois Blanc Island, which is the large island to the SE of Mackinaw Island.

I wish I could help. I am not sure how to help. I hope your little one recovers. I'd guess that the chicken is a girl, though.

I think the curling is just because the chicken is too weak to stand up strait and is on a flat surface. Treating the issue (impacted crop?) would be priority. I would venture to guess that when the chicken gets its strength back, the foot and toes will be held normally.

Haha, Herducks, I fell to adorable chicks at family farm and home today too! Brought home 2 easter eggers and an adorable light brahma. It was just my luck that our store was all sold out of the goat feed I prefer, so I'll have to go back next week and fight the urge to get even more chicks. I have resolved to go in there, load up my feed, and make a wide arc around the store so I don't even get near the chicks. LOL

Aww. Poor baby. She? looks like it feels miserable. I didn't realize I need to avoid Family Farm & Home too?
