I bought only 4 last year from FFH. I must have the nice store. TSC has ducks, a lot, and bantams. Silver and Gold Seabrights... Almost took pity on one that had some curled toes... ALMOST. I have 5 freaking broody hens right now. Yesterday I thought to myself, where are the eggs... This is odd. Yesterday I thought only 2 hens were broody. One who has been sitting for 2 weeks now on faverolle eggs, and Coco Chanel, who I won't let have chicks this time of year. She's a bit on the duh duh dah side, and will forget she has chicks after they've hatched. She's an excellent incubator though. Very dedicated... BUT, I don't feel like raising her chicks in the winter after she's forgotten about them... Well anyway. Today, I find Sheh-Sheh my white faverolle hen, hunkered down in a nest box being vicious. In the garage, both Ekta (serema) and Skeeter (Excellent mother) are both sharing a nest box, bellies bald. Well, I guess this explains why I only got 6 eggs today. I guess this also means that I won't have 9 dozen eggs on the counter again anytime soon. I ended up putting todays faverolle eggs in with Ekta and Skeeter. They both seem perfectly content to brood together, so, I will leave them be for the time being. Maybe separate them both with their own eggs a day or two before hatch.
So, Randy, I may have faverolles soon. Well see what's what, and If I get enough girls out of the mix, I'll pick two that I don't want in my breeding program, like if their beards are not full, or if they are smutty (black in the salmon) if you don't find your self with any before chicken stock... They'd just otherwise be producers, but not in the breeding pens.
