Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Can someone please PM me about how to legally set my farm up? I'm so lost! I just started getting some nice birds this past year and set up a website, but I really have no idea how to make things official. Thanks in advance!!!!!
Me too! I am so lost, not sure if it is worth it to make it legit or not.

So I am agreeing with Raz, could use a boat, my snowthrower couldn't even throw the snow without stalling out. Todays project is to get the brooder relocated to the garage. I love hearing the chicks chirping away in the dinning room, however, with size comes stink LOL and I am starting to be told I can't have any more birds... I guess that means if I relocate them so she cant get upset I am allowed birds right? I think so.... Chicken math strikes again! LOL

I think I know the answer but I guess I need reassurance I'm doing the right thing. Thanks everyone.
I think you have done what you can for her. You would be doing the right thing.

I know it isn't easy.

Nevermind the comment about needing chicks. We went to the TSC in Mount Pleasant and they just got the chicks in today. We got 10 chicks and 4 ducklings. If anyone is near there, I would recommend going today or tomorrow because there is about 10 or 12 brooders set up full of chicks. The other cool thing was that the black sex links and the golden laced wyandottes were only 99 cents each!!! The chicks are still young enough to also sex them yourself with the wing feather method and that is what I was doing with the straight run birds and the worker looked at me like I was nuts. I even sexed our ducklings we got and definitely got quite the stares from both workers and customers alike.

So, I was just out to change water in my brooder. short story time... PLEASE be careful. While I was working somehow I managed to knock down my heat lamp. Mind you the brooder is in my house so I can keep an eye on it, when I knocked it down the bulb broke and the element caught fire. It went out on its own as I was trying to pick it up, scared me to death! It was my fault, could have been prevented, no one was hurt, shavings are cleaned out and changed just please be careful, That could have gone very differently!

Jinxie, hi and welcome! We have 2 hens: a silver laced wyandotte and a black australorp. We started with a buff orpington, too, but she turned out to be a he and off to the farm he went (we live in a city, so no crowing). Our wyandotte likes chickens way more than people. She is patient with the kids, and allows petting, but never seeks it out. Our australorp is more friendly. Her eggs are bigger and more frequent.

Anyone considering starting a business should really seek expert, professional assistance. Or if you try it yourself, a good place to start is the Michigan website,
That is the FAQs page to get you started.

Just remember that this is an open forum and we often get lurkers, so be careful what you post about your particular operation. I know that some cities are trolling for intel on "illegal" farms.
