Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Well no way I can catch up with all the posts. I've been so busy working or house remodeling that I haven't had much time for the internet..or much else! Welcome to all the new members! This is a fabulous place for advice or just good friends! In a couple of weeks I'll be adding turning two cars into one into that mix too!

Yesterday while I was at work I got a call from the BF who sounded unusually upbeat and anxious for me to call him back. When I did he told me he found 5 turkey eggs!!! We have two BR turkeys that I'm keeping for pets. I thought for sure that they were a pair but I'm guessing since the one I thought was a male never has a long snood and doesn't have a blue-ish face and I don't think I've heard him gobble, it's probably a female. Bummer. They are super sweet though. As soon as I walk up to the door to feed them they will both lay down and I will pet them on the chin or back and they purr like cats!! When I leave they get up and go eat.

Last fall Aric traded two of our live turkeys for 15 chickens. I told him we have far too many chickens and he finally agreed! Shocker! Now to find people who want soup chickens LOL

Oh I know, I had goats as a child. We first need to move coops and runs and build something for the goats to be in! That's a project in itself around here. Then again Aric is pretty excited because if he doesn't have anything to build he can be moody LOL I don't think picnic tables will hold him over for long!

Wish all of Michigan towns and city did this.... and the entire country....

:welcome to all Newbies!!!

No kidding, but you are more likely to get smaller towns with a homegrown feel to pass those sorts of things than you are with some place like Holland. ALTHOUGH, you can grow what ever you want in your own back yard here. Even in town. You can pretty much get away with almost anything in your front yard here also. AND our city is also allowing some property owners intown to do small co-op veg gardens. There are now places in town here that you can have hens. SO, thats a good thing. Needs to progress farther.

Across the street, in then APTs, they have an are out back on their property next to the ponds where the residents can section off 4x8 or 8x8 plots for growing. They've run a water hose from the well house out there. Well, several linked together hoses actually. There aren't a lot of complexes that are that way.

I'd consider turkeys... Only I am afraid they'd hook up with those wild ones that love to visit and never come back!

Sweet goaties! If I EVER get around to getting my shed cleared...
