Once in a while if one of our chickens has a wheeze or slight sneeze, we give them a shot of Tylan 50 for 3 days. By then, it is usually cleared up. Sorry about your loss.Have been busy so not read the thread for a while. My husband has been home sick all week, so while I was busy taking care of him and my kids, I did not pay as close attention to the chickens other than shutting them up at night. Thursday night I noticed one of the seramas was wheezing, and when I went to open them up the next morning, she was dead on the floor. Now one of my silkies has the same loud squeaky wheeze and I am starting to panic. I have never had sick chickens before. All I have is VetRX, but I imagine it is too late for that to be of use. Farm Family & Home has Tylan 50, should I give all of them (8 bantams) that, or should I just bring the wheezing ones into the basement and give it to them? Grrrr, my husband is still sick and on vicodin, and I have the two kids to look after and a birthday party to take them to later today. Really feeling crunched and need help when I don't have lots of time for research.![]()
I had one of my chickens come down with a wheeze and I called the local feed store. They told me to immediatly remove her from the flock and come get this antibiotic. I removed her and gave her this antibiotic in her water for about 10 days. Then put her back with the rest and she is fine. I was told it can spread very quickly and come on very quickly.Have been busy so not read the thread for a while. Seramas are a little more touchy than other breeds.I went and got the Tylan 50 and needles, but when I got home and sat in the coop, nobody was sneezing or wheezing. I put VetRX on everybody's backs, in the bedding, and in the water. I'm planning on making time to check on them several times each day so if somebody starts up I will catch it right away. I was amazed how fast that little serama pullet went. I thought I'd have until the next day to sort things out at least. The one I lost was the larger pullet, which I figured would be the hardier one. I do really enjoy them and was sad to see her go as she was the most friendly. I will just keep the pair for now, but if I do lose either of the remaining two I will want to find another mate for the loner.
