CONGRATULATIONS

those are cute piglets..

nova- I think i may see how she is doing by friday if she is improving dramatically i will put a partition up if not i may have to cull her.. i have her in a crate in the coop right now with some food.. so she can be alittle warmer... i made sure she drank lots of water b4 i locked her up..I just dont know what to do, she could have many things going on.. first when i got her in nov I just thought the molting was tiring her out.. she has got her feathers back and the other day looked so shiny and pretty.. moving a little more but still kinda standing alone, i felt her keel bone and you can feel it , she is skinny,.. trying everything i find on internet, she has classic signs of old hen.. pelvic bone, hard stomach rock solid, who know maybe its something reproductive that making her that way.. could be circulatory..I wonder if i am trying to fight a loss cause sometimes.. its kinda like how much quality of life does she have is she comfortable.. I know this sounds grim.. but you think after a couple months she would changed some. I am trying to keep it real.. I am not sure she will snap out of it.. I am really appreciating all the help, but also dont want her to suffer either. i have that to think about. dont want to keep her around for me if she is miserable..
I have had birds dieing for 2 yrs, looks a lot like what you have, took 3 to MSU today, look up lymphoid leukosis and mareks, ....I hope she is just a little malnourished, but I would keep her separate for at least a week

Not laughing but......was it a drive by goosing! We have threatened friends of ours with drive by roosterings!

Yea stacykins!

Welcome those of you who are new and I don't remember. Been doing little with a migraine the past couple days. Weather has been nasty so I haven't wanted to go any where anyway. And you guys are no help....all this talk of hatching and chicks...and us still with way too much snow to be contemplating it. The bad thing is the longer I have to wait the longer the "to hatch" list grows.

OK so like I said, I have been loosing birds for 2 yrs. in 2011, took some to the vet, he thought strongyles and cocci , treated for those, birds kept dying,Thought, maybe just to week????
2012 it started again, with new chicks,......older birds from hatchery vaccinated for Mareks and cocci, are not getting sick, just new chicks........first chick to get sick this year showed classic sign of Mareks, paralysis, 1 leg front 1 leg back, after doing some more research and talking to a BYC-er, I ordered Mareks vac. gave to all birds. still having birds die. symptoms, look puffy, sick, pale comb, very thin, pick them up and it is a shock to see how thin they get in a short time. It could still be Mareks, as they were all infected before they were vaccinated.

not knowing finely got to be to much so I E-mailed Dr. M Fulton, from MSU...He suggested bringing in 3 birds to see if there is more then 1 thing going on. It could take up to 2 weeks to get the results, ,,,cost $170, for all 3 birds. a ridiculous amt. of $$ but I had to know, so I decided to bite the bullet,
will let you know what is going on when I hear.
Dr. Fulton was very helpful and will E you back if you have questions about your chickens, his E-mail is [email protected]....
Thank you CG for his E-mail and ##,

as long as you've weighed out the possibilities, and done what you can for her. Don't feel bad for doing the right thing if she's not going to make it. I have a chick that just hatched... I think I'll have to cull too. So not fair sometimes. Good lucs
Sillychicken- thank you.. That makes me feel better.. No its never easy. will be my first one to cull because she is sick. or to old.. who knows. something is going on..
