Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

My chickens were fine this morning. Their nipples were frozen but they came loose with a little wiggle, no big deal. The water was still nice and "warm", relatively speaking. The temperature in the coop was 12 degrees above the outside air temp. Not too bad for being a sucky coop. It's possible there could be a little frost bite on a comb or two. It's hard to tell at this point. Fritter (BO) with his huge comb and man waddles, I wouldn't doubt at all. Poof (BO) has a pretty large comb as well and it was a little pale at the tips. We'll see.

There was a beautiful sunrise this morning, complete with sun dogs. I tried to take a picture of it but it's sort of faint, look on both sides of the sun about 1/4 of the way in on both sides of the photo. You can sort of see them, thanks to photoshop, but it was much more impressive in person. My kids thought it was neat.

Nice picture, what are sun dogs?

Awhile ago someone indicated one could determine (something by the hens' teeth/gums. Now your hens have nipples? I can't remember who it was that devised the system of classifying crttters by their anatomical characteristics, but they would be astounded, i'm sure.

Its so cold, as I'm sure we all know!

Last night I edited some of my photographs to add protection against people copying/stealing. I am taking official photography classes starting Saturday, I hope to dabble in some photography (my dream side job would be to photograph weddings as an extra

I'm thinking of getting a digital SLR camera. Battery for my most recent camera Sony T700 digital is now priced at $ 125. And they are not in stock.

Will you tell me what you think might be good for birds and general picts ? What do you use for that, if you do that?

I have one rooster, a Welsummer, left. Anyone close to MONTAGUE want to give him a good home? He is a beaut.

The one in back. I could try for a better pict. if you're interested.

Maybe you've heard them called mock suns? I grew up calling them sun dogs so... but they're the phenomenon created by diamond dust floating in the air, very fine ice crystals, during VERY cold weather... like this morning. It was floating in the air when I got up, I could see it in front of the garage light, though there wasn't a single cloud in the sky. When the sun is low on the horizon you can sometimes get the right kind of refraction through the sinking crystals and hence, sun dogs. It's actually part of a halo.

Hey All, I have been away from chickens for awhile, and unfortunately this forum as well. We are looking for a new place with more space (yard space and hopefully less house space) so I can get back into my much missed chickens. In fact, we may be moving nearer to you Opa. Glad to see everyone is well and hope to be seeing you more in the near future.

As my great grandpa used to say, "It's colder than a well-diggers belt buckle out there!"

Went out to change the oil in my truck early this morning. So glad I have a propane heater in the garage! Bundle up if you're going out this evening!
