well I am now 2 pullets less. and my olive egger project that I was SO excited about is not going to happen this year. My splash marans pullet's insides were outside, so we culled her immediately, and while we were at it we culled the splash wyandotte pullet that we've had problems with her butt since day 1.That marans was the only reason I've kept the EE roo around. When this bag of food is gone, I'm going to make a final decision on who to keep, and make the rest into dinner (the roos, not the pullets).![]()
My crested pullets heads look awful from all the feather pulling too. This is not a good day.
Thank you for giving them a good home. Has Shug gone broody for you yet? I am glad they are doing well.love my Dellawares (thanks Hillbilly) 1muttsfan, are you bringing chicks to CS? I would like to order a few if you are, as young as possible if they are not vaccinated for Mareks, I will do them while they are in quarantine.
So far things are looking up here, Both of my Buisques are doing well as are the hens I got from Hillbilly Hen

Naglady, I love the Delawares I have from Sandhill Preservation. Some of the others have not been so great. I guess the point with your birds is that they are not a breed but a hybrid, so their offspring will be unpredictable and not as likely to be as good a quality or as good producers. You might want to think about Chickenstock this spring, many people bring purebred chicks and older birds along to sell, some of the stock is really good.
that would sounds pretty funnyAt least yours can be bribed! Lol mine just stand on the threshold doing a silly balancing act until I bring their treat to the safety of their coop! It's pretty hilarious to witness.
You lucked out. I don't know what they are, but they are pretty and if they are good layers and you breed them to a good laying breed the resulting chicks should be good layers as well. Congratulations!Got my free chicken coop, hen and rooster, left 830am home about 6pm, i did some shopping in the big city b4 i came home, got them settled in, seem to be doing pretty good.
the lady also gave me a like new incubator, with egg turner, still in box both of them, chick feeders and water, some food, water protector, scaly leg spray, some dried meal worms, food, food container, a plastic nestbox that mounts to a wall..here is some pictures, i dont think these are isa browns like she says.. anyone know. daughter look them up in chicken book and says they are delaware, any input would be appreciated.
Ouch! Hope it didn't flatten your toes.Has anyone ever had a 1,500+ pound cow jump on your foot? I did, and yup, it hurt like crazy! Thought that she broke it. Thankfully it was when I was finishing up for the night. I do not bruise easily, but there is a faint hoof shape mark on my left foot. Next time don't try to pick up the manure scraper off the floor next to the cow. It scares her.
BTW, my sweet girl did not do it. It was one of the cows at work...![]()
