Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hi MI people...question. I'm getting my first batch of chicks at the end of Feb. I keep reading medicated vs. non-medicated feed for them and the coccidia (SP?) issue. Is there a high prevalance of it in MI...specifically Northern Lower MI?

Also...when do you all put new chicks outside...with this weird weather we've been having...what's "too cold" for little ones who have their feathers. (Really, I'm just hoping it doesn't snow in May!)

Thanks!
Dawn

Anyone notice anything wrong with this photo?
I think that answer that you are looking for is that its the wrong weather out of the rooster's window? Its suppose to be snowing not a very nice warm balmy, sunny day on a nice green field. *Sigh* Although I like snow, but feeling homesick lately for warm and green days.
With the pending snow storm today I thought I'd brighten things up around here a little - FUZZY BUTTS ARE HERE!!!!! Everyone made it ok.. one of the little sumatra chicks was a bit stressed so I'm nursing her along. The others are running around like little mad men....then passing out. The hen chick I hatched a few weeks ago has become a mom hen whether she likes it or not... they're following her around. It's actually helpful cause she is showing them where the food and water is. I went to pull out the gimpy chick to cull and she started searching frantically for her....... go figure. So I went ahead and put her back.... Black/white chicks are Sumatra Soft yellow are Faverolles (ugh, mostly roos) The multi color chicks are Golden Campine Reddish brown chicks? Does anyone know? Rhode Islands? And there's a little banty chick in the center of the picture (I think) Oh well.. enjoy!
Congrats!!! I have been bitten by a goat fever lately. *must control it* *must control it* *must control it* ......

Thanks for the idea. Ill pick them up some hay.
Take some gold with you.

Well, that really sucks...

Purely from a photoshopping standpoint, I'd have to be critical of the leverage and grip that rooster has on an obviously heavy, full pot of coffee. His foot is far too low on the handle and the toes are not situated correctly to hold the weight. Even the placement of the right leg looks funny. From a killjoy perspective, there's no poo in the kitchen and the coffee-maker is on the counter in the background, meaning he'd have to have flown with the pot to the table without spilling. and well, it's a rooster, pouring coffee, duh. LOL.

The rooster is pouring coffee into a teacup?
That's a good catch. Coffee should always be in a big heavy mug.
