to all the new faces!!! Glad to have you!

Yahhhh!!!!! why do I have no baby chick picture texts then?!?! what color is the chick that's out?
My next batch is due out of the hatcher on Mon (hatch date Sat night)...... there are alot in there. I'm glad I found homes fror most of the chicks from last group (all but the keepers)!! will have to re post ads on CL when new babies are a few days old.
lol I'm trying to be good and not open it. ;) It's either a splash or a blue that's out. I'm guessing blue...been getting a lot of those lol. Which is good :)

Just in case anyone was interested...here's a picture of the heated water base I made. :) I use them in all my coops and unless it gets below zero I don't have frozen water. It's fantastic and cheap. This is the base without the lid on it.
Awesome idea! I'll definitely be making one of these, thanks! :)

HollyDuck - Yes! It's lots of fun, and a family-friendly event. I look forward to it every year. :)

Does anyone near Ann Arbor want two Sebright chicks? They are a week old. I picked them up when I got my 4 silkies at TSC, but needed to meet their 6-chick minimum. And since I just picked up my Meyer Hatchery chicks yesterday, I'm feeling a little overrun- -and I'm not a huge fan of Sebrights. Free to good home, must take them both. :)

Another cold day best spent drinking coffee and reading. It's nice how large this thread is becoming and I want to extend a warm welcome to all the new folks who have joined us. Chickenstock really has become something to look forward to and it is a wonderful opportunity to put faces to all of the names you've learned on our thread.

Last night I put a pot of great northern white beans on to soak. Got up early this ,morning a boiled the meat off a ham bone left from xmas. I pulled the bone out, allowed it to cool, and now my JRT is in 7th heaven gnawing away on it. I placed the meat broth, covered, out in the garage to cool and once the fat has congealed I will remove it and then place the beans on to cook for the rest of the afternoon. Those and a pan of cornbread will constitute an ideal winter meal.

I'm not sure if it's amazing or pitiful, but the older I get the more of my time is taken up with planning what to eat. Hope goes each day to take care of her twin granddaughters and comes home exhausted so it seems wrong for me to not have dinner ready when she gets home.

Oh Oh, Six chick minimum? I was planning for 4! Hmmm I may have to rethink where I get my chicks or how big to build my coop! I am waffling between 4x4 and 4x8. I can see getting overrun by eggs with 6 chickens once they are all laying! Which TSC had the silkies? I haven't been to TSC Whitmore Lake in a few days and all they had was mixed bantams, I couldn't pick out which was which from that pile of cuteness!
