Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Grrr... all of my BCM hatching eggs that I bought from Cedar Creek Hatchery are infertile. Nothing against them personally but still... Candled them at day 7 and again at 10 and nothing. Took them out and broke them open... nothing. I could have put them in the frying pan and made breakfast they were so infertile. All of my *FREE* mutt eggs, all 10 of them are alive but the ones I shelled out serious money for are duds.

On the upside, the buff brahma eggs are okay (though they were a substitute for the breed I really wanted - buckeyes - that weren't laying at the time). So... just as a cautionary warning.
Wow do you get your money back?

first the class teaches how to test for pullorum and what it is. you can become certified for $20 but can take the class for free,,I think there may be a chicken health class in the afternoon, also free,,,

next yes you can put chicks under a broody even if she doesn't hatch any of her own, I would do it at night and as soon as the others have hatched as she will be more likely to accept them. Do watch for awhile to make sure she accepts them.

if the egg was dimpled it most likely would not hatch and she could have tossed it out of the nest and an other hen ate it. have not had a hen eat an egg while she was broody but they are self preservationist and will work towards the good of the flock. wich is why they will kill a sick or injured bird

She are because she is in her own coop. I thought yuck because the egg was 12 days along.

I didn't know you get duck eggs for a duck I thought they came from a goose, hahahahahahahaha

I did have to laugh at myself when you pointed that out though.

I'm going camping! Well, not really...

Yoko is so close to popping. Because the wireless security camera that was SUPPOSED to have a range of over 200m even though walls failed miserably, I can't have eyes on her at night unless I am there. The security camera works great around the house. But the 200 feet to the tractor shed? Pfft, heck nah!

I got a cot set up out there now, all weather sleeping bag, etc. I'd rather 'camp' and have peace of mind than not. Actually, it'll be pretty comfortable! And fun!

this looks yummy
I am a bit overwhelmed today. Last fall I interviewed for a job as the Youth Librarian at our local library. I was not surprised when I didn't get the job because they wanted someone with a degree in child development, which I do not have. Today they called and offered me the position because the person they hired decided they would be better suited in the local school system. They also liked the idea I mentioned, Beaks for Books, using chickens to promote reading like they use dogs in Paws for Reading. This is a good thing since I haven't been working for two years, but means a bit of reorganizing as we homeschool. Good thing just overwhelming since they would like me to be trained the end of this week. I think I will go hold a chicken and try to organize my brain.
Congratulations and Good Luck..

The MSU Pavilion is on Pavilion Drive but, to use maping programs the Pavilion street address is: 4301 Farm Lane East Lansing, MI 48823 The building is at the corner of Mount Hope Rd & Farm Lane Below is the Mapquest link I was given to attend the class with instructions to bring a writing utensil. The workshop is free however, there is a $20.00 fee to be certified for 3 years, payable in cash or personal check at the door. No need to pre-register to attend.

Who else is attending? I can't find the post but wasn't there a conference or something also going on in the afternoon for sellers & venders at Farmer Markets about advertising or ???? I would like to check it out if I can get info on it.

Nova, I'm wondering if you went to Townline today. If so:
1) are they doing silkies this year, and
2) did you take them all?
