Put 24 eggs into lockdown on Monday night, various breeds and mixes. This is a test run of my new incubator as well as fertility. Refused to candle this time, no touching except to remove them from the auto turner. This morning, two have pipped, and one of those rocking like crazy.

It's my day off today. Guess what I'll be doing? LOL! Keeping my fingers crossed to see what actually hatches. Fun, no matter what.
And a BO decided to go broody about a week ago. Perfect timing. No need to set up a brooder.

This is my first time incubating...it is exciting! good luck to you.

Here we were all excited for spring and winter comes back last night. My husband got into an accident on the interstate this morning on his way to work. He's totally fine and says the truck is too, the other person not so much. Then he told me about how when the police talked to the other driver she said her neck and knee hurt but those were prior injuries. So good thing she said that to everyone so she can't come back later and try to sue us for injuries or something.

I was going to go spend the day shopping after doing morning chores but now I'm not so sure I want to be out and about.

Hang in there! I'm on day 20 and I have 6 pips (out of 15), all in the last few hours, 5 BO/EE mixes and 1 Buff Brahma.

What does one do when the POS FIL won't lift a finger to call us and let us know my DH's mom is back in the hospital for the 3rd time with life threatening issues? I have a few choice words for the lazy POS! But he just doesn't care. I told my DH that he probably needs to have a talk with his mom, get it in writing at least, about what she wants done with her stuff before anything happens to her. I don't trust his POS FIL to not pawn off her stuff or give it to his kids to destroy before he'd even tells us she died.....it all should go to her son (my DH) and grand daughter.... whole thing is sad really. So DH is going to go see her today and hopefully get things taken care of for her.
Keyt, if only those hens were royals, I'd take them off your hands.

I had some in a huge flower pot last year that were almost black! Since we're getting the bees this year, it gives me the excuse to plant more flowers! I generally plant only perennials, but I do plant annuals in the flower pot. When we first built the house, a friend of my sister gave me her flower garden full of perennials..... I just had to go dig it up! It was enough to give me a great jump start on landscaping. Can't wait to start digging in the flower beds again! I plan to redo the back yard gardens, after we get the goats out of the yard, and we build a much needed deck off the back. I also have an area on a hill that is really hard to mow, so I may turn that into flower garden space as well! (any excuse will do!)

But first, more goat fencing must go up as soon as we can put a hole or 12 in the ground! JR goat needs to go out! I am really surprised how little he smells. HA, well for now anyway!

I also need to get gutters up on the shed and coops... Looking to put rain barrels to good use. Any one use them? How do you mange during winter? I want to figure out a way to make them waterers for the birds as well. Any ideas?

The only thing I know about Hydrangeas is that the blossom color depends on the soil pH, and you can change the color of their blossoms by increasing or decreasing the pH.

Oh yes, weighted blankets. I am working on one now. Clark is very visual so we have PECS card daily reminders.

You do learn a lot when you have someone with a disability in the house. Or even a medical problem. Clark has taught me quite a bit and continues to teach me every day. Tyke (#2) has severe acid reflux. He is on double OTC adult strength of Previcid plus Zantac daily. The poor kid. He is what started me on being more aware of our diet. I always made sure we had fruits and veggies, but there is a lot of nasty stuff in our food! He and Clark were the push to get us off most processed foods. I do my best to have organic milk and fruit/veg, but well, I have a budget to keep in. So I am not where I would like to be, but we will be there fully eventually. I wish there was a milk share a little closer or a little cheaper ($200 to buy in) closer to us.

Clark is my driving force to go back to school for Special Education. I figure I will learn ways to help him in the long run, and also some day I will work again. Clark has some severe anxiety issues with that, but that is another story.

My SO has Cerebral Palsy. Being with him has taught me much more about people and snap judgments. Also it has taught me more about physical disabilities. I was also introduced to other people through him. He works at the Social Security Admin. and many of his coworkers either have a medical condition or a disability. It ranges form organ transplants, cancer, and some mental illness to Autism, Traumatic Brain Injury and Cerebral Palsy. Most of them have had to fight to be taken seriously. It has been a long fight of proving that they are not defined by their disabilities and they just want to be taken seriously and be seen for what they can do, not what they can't do. Or when my SO and I go out in public with the kids (especially when I have a fat pregnancy belly) we have some not so nice comments about how we should stop having kids and being a drain. Well, you don't know us though? My SO works very hard. Do not assume. And I am not putting down those who are on SSD or SSI and not working. YES, there are some that abuse the system, but there are also many who are not and do what they can. It is not easy having a disability and finding someone to give you a break. Or sometimes they really cannot work because of disability or the meds they are on. You really never know.

Yesterday I smoked some eggs. While they weren't as heavily smoked as I would have liked, darkness was approaching and I decided that they would have to do. Today for lunch I used some of them to make egg sandwiches. I can highly recommend that you should try some. They were incredible. I definitely will be smoking more in the future.

I make and use rain barrels. I had not thought of using them as waterers before but I did use the captured water for the duck pool. I have an idea or 2 that I need to work on. I have a few extra barrels on hand if someone would like me to build a rain barrel for them.
