Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Fed up with winter I wants spring!!
Used to do rain dances on this thread. Is there such a thing as a spring dance??

I think the spring dance is like "ring around the rosie"... and pretty sure it requires children & laughter!!

Silkie question. My little chick is almost a month and almost all the feathers are in except crest and neck. Do silkies feathers look silkied at the beginning when they grow in or do they grow in just looking regular? This chick looks pure silkie but the feathers coming in look normal, so I have no clue at this point.

Here is a picture of one of my silkie chicks at 6 weeks.

Pretty little puff ball. Like a giant dandelion puff. LOL

Hi Grammi!! & all the rest of ya!

SUNDAY. I like Sundays, other than the thought of having to work tomorrow. We went last night to our friends house and played a new game called "Smart A**"... nice big "donkey" game. It was FUN!

I won some Olive Egger hatching eggs here on BYC last night! I'm so excited to get those! OE's have been on my want list for quite a while now. I told DH last night that "I won I won!!"

... and he rolled his eyes at me and huffed. **sigh** He did tell me that he doesn't care how many eggs I hatch or what chickens I acquire, so long as it does't require him working/expanding the coop & run. Again. I think this DW is going to be doing modifications by herself this summer. LOL. Also, our good friends (that we went to last night) is going to take chicks from us. So I'm hatching for them too! They didn't buy any from FF&H and are expecting some really good layers from me this year. I have to provide!!

The only other chickens that are on my "I really want them... if I only had room!" list are a couple BCM hens, and I really want Polish frizzles. They look so cool. The polish frizzle would require whole new accomodations though and I think I'd better let DH have the summer off. Unless I get rid of my silkies and replace them with the frizzles. Nah, I can resist. But I'm getting my OE eggs!! Yippee!!

I have lots to do outside today. DH is already out there doing wood and I should get a lot of my own things done. Coop... goats... and I want to start clearing out my little flower area that has tiger lilys and irises. Trying to figure out what I'm making for dinner tonight. I think it's going to be Bacon Cheeseburger Meatloaf.

I think you have to DANCE like a fairy, unless the jumping is to wake up the earth ??

I love Heavenly Scent! I haven't been there in a couple of years now but I've been meaning to go back almost every summer. They have a great greenhouse selection. They also used to have a great Spring Fair with lots of crafters every year . . . I'll have to see if/when that's happening.

Thanks.... Now I want a silkie now!!!! We are only allowed 10 chickens and I have 19 (I think it is 19) surviving chicks. Some will become a chicken dinner once they become large enough.

I wish to slap my friend who has been staying with us. Except I do not condone violence without good cause. Sadly her attitude is not cause enough. We managed to get the lower building open and my SO agreed to let me use it for chickens. Well, then Miss "I only need a few months" and she has been here since OCTOBER gets an attitude stating that we keep telling her that all her stuff is taking up room in the garage and at some point AJ (My SO) told her she should put her stuff down there. And so if she did not get the lower shed (metal on a cement slab, very clean) then we would just have to deal with all her stuff in our garage... Yep, Except she brought 5X the amount she said she had... which is why it was an issue. And maybe she should get her own unit to store it in... Man, Sorry, but if you are 32 years old, you need to act like an adult and remember that people don't "owe you".

Anyway, So I need her stuff out of my garage since my stuff is in the area that gets a little bit of standing water in the spring. So now I am gonna try to talk SO into letting me cut a small hold in the upper shed (wood) and screen in half of it and use that for a coop. I am not seeing it happening though..... So I guess I will be back to building my own. Although now I will have room in the garage to do so.

Want to see my minions and chicks? My chicks are getting so big!!!!

I just read that and re-posted on my FB page.

I thought that it tended toward a sensationalist piece and did not really explore the facts. I had read that the un-named Ohio hatchery had the breakout in 2011 not 2012 (unless they are talking about a different hatchery).

In general, I tend to discount reports that use words like "many" or "some" and do not qualify or quantify their results. However it can lead to further accurate research.
