Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

RaZ, so sorry that things did not go well.

I have a broody that scolds every time I walk near her, I do not want a broody right now as I have chicks ordered and I really don't want to order Mareks vac. right now. the chicks ordered will be already vac. Hope they come soon then I can just slip them under her. Every night I take all the eggs and put her on the ground and she sits there and yells at me.
OH, I'm sorry, I wish the rain would stop but I am glad it is not snow!!!!

The horror! The next thing you know people will be growing their own food in gardens and putting solar panels on their roofs and drinking raw milk! Oh, the humanity!

the New Hampshire. really had I vertalized eggs from her and a NH rooster she is so beautiful and sweet. Scolds like crazy when I take the eggs away but doesn't nip. Saw Darans NH he got from you also, they are such a pretty breed.

Decided I would go for small combs though as I had some frostbite this winter

An unintended find on dealing with Mareks. piecing facts together.

Chickens housed in the tractor and then sent to daughters house, even though they free ranged and ran around freely in the big coop run.
there were no deaths (no quite true,I think she said 1 died shortly after they went to her house, could have spent more time in big coop)

I asked the vet why that would be as they were mixed together, except for sleeping. He said it is from the chicken dander,in the dust
So even though I cleaned out the coop well, I did not vac. the dust from the rafters and there was a lot up there.

So perhaps if you have unexplained deaths and don't want to, or can't afford a necropsy. take a leaf vac (which I am saving to buy) or a shop vac (which I use now) and vac. out as much dust as you can.

I also sprayed every thing down with a bleach solution ( which I think may have caused some of the comb frost bite) was a nice day when I sprayed but may not have been sufficiently dried before the cold set in?

So I can not prove any of these things, Nor can I explain why birds sent to a new location did not continue to die, while mine did.
All birds were vaccinated (even adult)as soon as I suspected Marek's. (vet. said vac. after 1week and exposure, vac. for Mareks is a waist of $$) (don't know if there is any proof of tat either)

So just a thought, but I will be completely vacuuming out my entire coop very well as soon as the rain stops and it warms up a bit.

Good to know, thanks. My coop is due for a thorough cleaning but after it's dry. This rain and moisture has soaked into everything, even the dust.

Mine too. April bleeping showers. Do you all put anything on your coop floors in the warmer months? Mines a cement floor and I'm thinking bare cement would be pretty easy to keep clean....

I would think that the hard cement floor would be very hard on their feet as they are jumping down from their roosts. Might cause some injuries.

Good Morning! Gloomy, but at least it's not raining!
