So, I'm almost afraid to offer folks hatching eggs (I was going to send out some test batches of Araucana eggs for free to people interested in hatching them, and I have a long list of people who want those eggs!). The postal service seems like they are being more rough than usual with packages I've received. Damage to items that aren't even delicate and very well packed! A top bar hive I just unpacked had badly cracked boards, despite being packed with a lot of care. The outside of the box was pretty beaten up, too.

Earlier in the year, I got a steel milking stand which obviously went through a lot of abuse at the hands of the postal service.. The box was torn and the corners crushed. And the steel of the stand bent so badly that pieces would not come together. Seriously, I pay HOW MUCH to have that shipped, only for them to ruin it. I don't expect them to treat it like porcelain, but it looked like it fell of a truck or something.

I ordered some books recently too. And they were pretty roughed up by the time they got here. Not cool, especially because they were new books. So how can I expect the post office to treat some hatching eggs? I mean, I can package them as carefully as possible, but if they're playing kickball with the boxes, packing can only do so much...

Okay. I need some help. I made our pens with raccoons, possums, and coyotes in mind. I put metal at the top and bottom with a wire window. Somehow, they found a way to climb up and eat through the wire. I've lost 15 or so birds in the past few weeks to raccoons. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can get rid of them? Here is a picture of my pens to give you an idea of what I'm up against:

Can't see the picture but what kind of wire? Hardware cloth, the heavy duty kind is all I trust to keep the coons out. As for getting rid of coons, trap.

It is metal roofing on the bottom and top with chicken wire between the two metal sheets.
Chicken wire is only good for keeping chickens in. It is next to useless for keeping predators out. Welded wire is much better. Higher initial cost but in the long run much better for you and your birds.
