Kimmie, candling can be fascinating. It also can be detrimental to embryo development, especially if you candle for too long on one egg, or roll it around too vigorously. It also increased the risk of dropping and breaking eggs (NEVER candle over the open incubator!). If you have eggs you are not sure about, just leave them in and later you will be able to tell more about them. It is probably best to candle only on day 10 and 18, and if you need a candling "fix" in between just candle one or two - and briefly.

I LIKE long storys, and old people,

QUESTION.. for all the wise people on this site .... Does any one know how to get a pat out of the fire place? would like to live and release, we haave a combustion fire place insert with solid glass doors, problem is he is hanging right at the seem of the door and I know if I open it he will escape into the house (witch I do not want) he got in through the top,( I think the builders forgot to put on a screen last fall when they installed. We put a temp screen around the top to keep the birds out( 2 this week) may have to climb back up on the roof and remove the screen, but the problem still remains on how to get him to fly back up??
We have the 2x4x4 welded wire around our back yard, keeps chickens in and things that are not inclined to climb out,
Snowflake- If you have a fishing net, put it in front of the door, then open the door and let the Pat go into the net, then just grab it and take it outdoors. :) Wait, let me get my camera and you tube all set up LOL....seriously, it should go smoothly.

Good luck to Raz today. Has anybody heard from him?

Opa- congrats on the turkey! Hope your hand feels better soon.

Naglady!! You are going to have an AWESOME hatch this time. I know it!! :) :)

Gladahmae - BLRW's are gorgeous! Good luck!

So, I've been stalking & gawking, but not posting so much. Finally have my computer issues sorted out (I hope!).

We have put ALL our chicks & ducklings outside, and our momma hen with her babies as well. It feels so nice to have the house back!

Here is momma (Jewels) and the 9 babies she hatched. She is being a wonderful mom. :)

I just had the extreme pleasure to view this pair of Sandhill Cranes out my back window. So when God gives you such a rare gift, you take a picture & share it. :) Simply gorgeous.

Maah, thanks for sharing both photos. About a month ago, when there was a full moon, I heard some strange sounds outside from above. I went out, but couldn't see anything. The sounds was unmistakably sandhill cranes. I felt very fortunate to be an audio observer of their migration.

Our cochins are feathering in. After looking at a ton of photos, I suspect we have some lavender babies. The cross beak's condition is getting more pronounced, but it seems to be thriving: it's actually bigger than the other one.

Sam! You took Gimpy out??

Love the pics of the hen and chicks on the roost and also the one outside with her chicks!! So adorable.

Got our dogs walked before it started raining!

Coops and runs got cleaned and even managed to pick some dandelions for the rabbits before the skies opened up.

Hope they don't put RaZ in jail. I mean, he shouldn't be allowed to walk the streets. He's a bad man, keeping chickens. How dare he?? We're all thinking about you, RaZ. Hope it's not too bad.

Enjoy your day..........

i just scored a big roll of chicken wire, as i was coming out of the store i see a truck drive in parking lot.. and i see a roll of chicken wire with bunch of junk in the back of this truck. so i asked the guy what he was doing with it. he said taking it to the scrap yard, he asked if i was interested in it, i said yes.. he said you have a couple bucks i say i do.. hand him two dollars and woala its mine.. that was pretty exciting..

so all in all a pretty exciting day so far.. cheap chicken wire, and a chick hatched .. doesnt take much to amuse me..
