Trying to get DH to go with me this year.... or I'm a goin it alone! Looks like me and DH will be going on Saturday!

I've been pestering my DH about wearing a kilt... he has the most awesome legs for it! I know he'd like it... The cool thing is, we both can link back to the same tartan!

I'd like to get one for myself some day too... I just have a scarf.

If you ever get a chance to see the Chelsea house orchestra - the kids are awesome!

That's what I was thinking as far as the heat lamp goes, Hubby did confirm that we did lose one.... he did go out and carefully hook up the heat lamp for them as well.... Should I have some of their bedding inside the coop as well?

Bedding will make it easier to keep clean. Anytime a young chicken looks cold,, it probably is and you risk losing it if you don't do something. From the pictures and your description, yes, they are too young to be without heat. Please make sure you have the heat lamp securely hooked up. Don't trust the "bail", attach the cord as well, just in case.

Thank you for the input, I think When I get home I am going to try and figure out a way to block the doorway to keep the little bit of breeze there may be out as well... as much as I didn't want these little buggers I am getting attached (shhh don't tell the hubby) and don't want to deal with them dying on me!

The highland festival is amazing! If your DH (?) does wear a kilt, tell him he has to go "free" underneath, otherwise it's a SKIRT! We went to Daytona 2 years back, and we were in a motorcycle club, and on the last day we were there we did our "Kilts n Colors" ride.... imagine ~200 motorcyles cruising through Daytona, all with men wearing kilts and NO undies.... needless to say there was a special way to get on and off the bike... as well as a lot of tucking!

If you guys come up/down for the festival it would be neat to meet up!

Howdy everyone, I was wondering if anyone had any Cream Legbars here in MI. I tried hatching out some shipped eggs but they failed to hatch so I am looking for a closer source of stock.

Head shaking is usually an indication of some type of respiratory distress.  Quite often a water soluble anti-biotic is your best treatment option.  A very good publication to have on had is "Important Poultry Diseases" that can be found at http://www.canadianpoultry.ca/cms_pdfs/Important Poultry Diseases 060058 - CPC website.pdf   It goes into great detail with symptoms, causes, treatment, and necropsy photos. 

Thank you Opa! That made for some very good reading. It took a while, but I got through it all. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the accompanying symptoms of the listed diseases are not present so I wasn't able to determine the cause. It's exactly what I needed to read though, and will add it to my saved info. On my way home from work today I'm going to pick up an antibiotic to keep on hand in case I observe any other symptoms. This morning she was acting perfectly normal but still "talked" funny. She ate her feed, including an apple and garlic I chopped for her, had normal droppings, eyes looked bright and clear, physically normal by all accounts. Her breathing had improved, but it's cool out today so maybe that made a difference. Thank you again for the link!

yes, bedding is good~ helps keep them dry and they can nest down into it... for extra warmth!

Raz and all...Crispy and Gravy are doing well, and enjoying vacation. We will not give up hope that they will return to you soon. I will post pics Monday, when we get home. It was so very cool, we are at my sisters in Dexter and staying here for Mother's Day and all of the kids were so excited to see the blue egg that Gravy gave today. My nieces asked if it had a baby and it sparked great conversation. God bless! I will update often.

He doesn't have a kilt yet.. I'm working on it!

We will be at the festival on Saturday in the afternoon. tickets are bought and in my hands! I want to be there for the mass band. Not sure about staying longer but I wouldn't mind seeing the kids playing in the orchestra. Would be great to meet up - hillbilly you too!

I had a chick order all filled out today and then deleted it. I want them but don't really want to have to find space for them. However now I'm looking at incubating a dozen golden pheasant eggs. My son is an enabler, he keeps saying "mom we should try these, they don't take that much room" and " it could be a 4-h project " and "aren't they cute!" It is true, why do they have to be so cute! I am also proud to say I passed on some emu chicks.....for now. If I had fencing up it would have been a different story.
