Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I may end up posting on the swap page in a couple more weeks - I think 2 of my Black Copper Marans chicks and 1 of my Blue/Blue Splash Copper Marans chicks may be cockerels. I will keep one of them - probably the blue. The blue and one of the BCM came from very dark eggs that were hatched by the gentleman I bought them from. 1 of the BCM came from a medium dark egg most likely as the breeder I bought him from, I also bought my 1 laying hen from (last October as a day old chick) and her eggs aren't very dark, either. She is the sweetest girl I've ever had though, so she will definitely be staying just because of her personality. I've even thought about getting a couple chicken diapers and bringing her in as a 'house' chicken since she is more comfy with people than other chickens. She does mother the younger chicks quite well so I could put her in the chicken tractor with the young'uns. She is not aggressive with them at all . . . Hopefully, this will be a sign that she will make an excellent broody someday.

These are all things I am learning as we go unfortunately..... my DH was convinced we wouldn't have a predator problem where we live, but I guess I proved him wrong there! Like I said, we won't be having anymore until I plan the next coop. He doesn't seem to think you have to plan things out before hand..... just like the chicks when we got them, he just bought them without thinking ahead!!

Gaitngirl- I would be interested in your BCMs, but I'm in same boat as Ginger, no space for chickens ATM. BTW- you are my neighbor! Gaines!
Howdy Neighbor!

That's how my dh also! Sometimes its so hard to convince them you are right I give up. But mine seems to overthink everything so we get nothing done.

What kinda coop do you have now?

Nothing fancy just one that was built over a pallet, it's about 3' off the ground.... my babies were getting too big to be inside (flying out of the tote/perching on the side and pooping everywhere/pecking and pooping in my plants!) so we had to whip something up quick!

You might want to get your coop in tip top shape and then make plans to come to Chickenstock! You'd find some awesome birds there that are ready to go! :)

My chickens are in a little tykes plastic playhouse lmao. I just made sure it was predator proof because my DH wouldn't listen
