Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Welcome Kat,
Since you've been lurking you have an idea of what we all chat about, what gets us excited and how we try to help each other. So don't be shy, jump in. And CS should be a priority on your social calendar.

The Ag Commissioners are meeting today at the Eastern Market in Detroit. Several of us will be there representing the backyard farmer, small scale farmer and the rest who value producing safe, healthy food. After that, several MSFC members will meet for lunch and enjoy then fruits of Eastern Market (pun intended).

Thanks, RaZ...
I have been following your whole ordeal over the past few months; and congrats on all that you have accomplished! I cannot even believe GC...wow..
Would love to meet ya'll downtown at lunch, but, alas, I must work; plus I carpooled (keepin' it green :)) and am car-less til I get home at 1700!
As for being shy, definitely something i have NEVER been accused of. Now that I have actually "jumped" in; you'll probably get sick of me!
And, yes, I have noted all of the wonderful things that everyone here gets "excited" about; and it is pretty much the same stuff as me! Especially the "healthy" eatin' stuff. Have a great garden, totally into canning, hunt..basically trying to get to the point that I am growing, raising and/or hunting my OWN food!!
As for CS...I may drop by for an hour or two since it is so close...really would like to meet everyone F2F!

On a completely unchicken related note, I am having a dickens of a time with my jeep. Replaced thermostat, water pump, hoses, head gasket and the tappit (SP?) gasket. I am still having an seriously annoying cooling issue. Water is BOILING in the overflow, and out of the overflow. I have burped the engine too. All seemed to be fine the last 2 days I worked, then today, boiling over again and this time steam was coming out of the engine where the tappet cover gasket has been replaced. I use the vehicle for work... What in the blazes am I missing? I would gladly take any adivice/ideas/fixes into consideration.

I am by NO MEANS a vehicle fixer. However, I do know that you can get faulty thermostats from the parts stores. DH is a car fixer upper & occasionally has to replace the thermostat on things a couple times before he actually gets one that works the way it's supposed to. I wouldn't even consider this my 2 cents... it's probably not worth that much, but it's an idea. LOL.

Not sure if this has been posted before, or is even already a Chickenstock event, but I had to share. I would love me a good game of "Chicken Poop Bingo" for some chicken schwag prizes.

We should of course feed the chicken during the game to keep things moving along and keep her happy...

We play this every year at my cousin's 4th of July party! It's quite entertaining.
Good morning, all... First time posting (to any forum for that matter),

Welcome Kat!

Well, I know I am going to have to replace the dang gaskets again, but, oh well. I am going to redo the thermostat, though I did better fail safe, and going to replace rad cap and a flush as well. Gah! If I don't figure this out, gonna have to get a new car...

Nova be very very cautious regarding radiator flush. My old Jeep (was 6 cyl 4.0L) had that done, that ended up creating huge issues--- the process lodged junk in my heater core, which is an expensive, nasty repair. That being said, my V8 Jeep went thru I think it was 2 or 3 heater cores. Again, nasty repair.

... And Nova, seems like if you had a major leak at/around/near your gaskets-- you'd see evidence (bubbles at minimum, obvious leaks) But you're right, there comes a point where there just ain't no sense in throwing good money after bad.

Good morning, all... First time posting (to any forum for that matter), but have been lurking since early Mar to learn as much as possible before getting my first babies! And, yes, chicken math hit me hard. Was gonna get 4, went to TSC in Howell and walked out with 12! But, hey, they were 50% off! I cannot even tell you how much all of you have helped me over the past several months in raising all of them from chicks, to the fun pullets, and, unfortunately THREE cockerels (I really only want to keep one). They truly are a riot! Thank you! Opa...you and I can start having coffee together in the morning as I usually am having my first cup around 0315 before heading off to work at 0445! Have a great day all, and I anticipate that I will be posting much more in the future. Also still debating Chickenstock as I have about 3 events that day; but Chickenstock is by FAR the closest event to my house! (PS..real name is Kathy/Kat)
Hi Kat welcome I will be going to CS bringing pullets and roos I don't need and some purses using chicken fabric

The barriers are down! The big girls and little girls have been free ranging together with minimal arguing. Last night I took the fence down inside the coop. No blood yet! DH said the little girls were nervous this am and one jumped into a pail of water! Honest, they were fine when I let them out before work!! LOL DH is more protective I think. My thought is, they are gonna scrap until the pecking order is established, just watch for blood!

RaZ- Good job with the eco farm!

Coons require guns in my book!
