Where are you? You think two silkie boys would get along? I feel sorry for mine because he doesn't roost and sleeps all by himself...
If you are near southern MI, almost IN, I have become the local chicken rescue. Lol. He is lovely.

Well, finally was able to get 95% of grass done. Took til 14:00 til it was MOSTLY dry. THEN tractor decided that it didn't want to "move" for the home stretch. Second time this has happened. I fear there may be a tranny issue beginning to rear its ugly head...
Everyone's gardens look fabulous. Mine..well, suffice it to say the weeds are doing really well.
Have a 5 1/2 day break from work coming starting about noon the 3rd (they always let us blast 59 mins early day b4 holiday AND since the 3rd is my BDAY, figure I'll get to boogie NLT noon
). Figure I can get garden back in pristine shapes using that time. Peppers are looking a tad better; but this is by far the lamest year for them thus far. Better not affect my salsa...even my habaneros look pitiful...and I really need those....Time to cleanup. Hope wind dies; Balloonfest here in Howell and I am hoping that a ton of the hot air balloons are able to take off a little later...only saw about 3 this morn. Very cool when there are dozens floating around ....
Thanks! I was thinking this thread would come in handy if I ever had any roosters that needed re-homing, hatching eggs, etc. It's also nice to be able to talk with people who are from the same area.

Well THAT experiment is over now! I put 2 chicks I had multiples of (a silkie and a marans) under the grumpy broody. She was fine for the 10min or so that I sat and watched her. I came inside to check on the kids, and went back out about 15min later. DH was just going into the coop to find some WD-40 and peeked in to check and she was pecking the silkie chick. Needless to say, she got thrown off her 'nest' and we put the chicks under the silkie. She scooped them right under her and made lots of what I consider to be 'happy mama hen' sounds.
I'm going to hold off on giving her the rest of the chicks until tomorrow. She's still got 3 eggs that I'm hoping will hatch, and I don't want her to abandon those prematurely.
I'm really looking forward to next year when I will (hopefully) have a few more silkie hens to be incubators and brooders for me. The 9 silkie chicks I have will HOPEFULLY not be like my BLRWs and I'll have at least a 50/50 split for girls instead of 80% being boys.

ud I ended up keeping one of the boys and re-homed the rest. I was told the percentage is usually 60% males and 40% females. Which is exactly what I ended up getting. 
Thanks, I chalk my (so far) success to the sheep poo/straw. Hopefully it's not overdone though or I won't be getting much fruit.
You can't see the peppers at all, they're so small still. The first set didn't do squat. I replanted them with a dozen plugs the nursery GAVE ME. They were going to throw them away. But still, for this time of year, they're tiny and don't have flowers yet. Just too wet and cool this spring and they don't rebound easily from early growing troubles.
Go for it! I don't have a cherry wine recipe but I've always wanted to try making cherry. Jealous already at just the mention of it. Our home brew store back in Dundee had all the recipes I ever used. I'd just go in and ask for them. Never had a bad batch. Makes me wanna take a trip to an orchard and buy up a lot of cherries. My carboys are empty. Can't have empty carboys sitting around.

If I lived closer I'd come over and take the turkey. A bag of Flockraiser? Wow, he is eating alot! Lucky for me the chickens and ducks are getting tons of stuff that grows around here now like weeds, cherries, tomatoe suckers, and bad strawberries. The goats are eating all the apple drops already and doing one heck of a job on the honeysuckles!

Just reminding the CS13 folks that I put up pix on fickr under uchytil59. I know how fast the thread moves so I'll repost every week for awhile so you can see yourself maybe. Also wondering where the north or west meet was headed. And, don't forget the 2014 planning ahead thread in the CS threads. Ya'll have a good week at work, or play.
