Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

RAZ, I'd also like to help by writing letters. Where do I start? I've sent letters to my rep in the past and the only response I ever got was "e-news letters" they never even pretended to respond.
If there is a better person to advocate to, please share!
I feel for you in your situation. Has any progress been made on your appeal?

I wrote Rick Snyder directly but my sister, who works for the gov't, thought they might have dumped it on the "poor Ag department upstairs" anyway. I will just keep writing. It's easy enough to print off copies of the same letter and/or send duplicate emails. Since Raz recommended writing the Ag commissioners, then it's all going to the right place anyhow.

Good morning Michigander Chicken Peeps! Finally getting a good steady drench here. We need it but I was so hoping to get more done outside today. A friend is dropping off t-posts and chicken wire that they no longer need so I was going to start working on separate chicken and duck runs. They all free range currently and, come chow time, the ducks pig down the food so fast that the chickens get very little. I feed fermented feed and they all love it. But I can't even leave a feeder with dry feed in it anymore because the ducks don't stop until it's empty! The chickens hardly get crumbs even. I would like to get away for a long weekend soon but want to make feeding a bit easier for the house sitter . . .

Been gone camping last week, lots to read..

garden is growing great with the warm weather.

found this in the garden this am.. does anyone know what it is.. this is a picture of the internet, but its the same thing, a i found 3 big globs by my tomatos in my woodchip garden.. i already removed it.

Happy Birthday to all the July Birthdays..

My EE suppose to be white pullet from tsc.. which we were suspecting she is a he all along.. because of size crowed the day we were leaving camping.. so now we have a big beautiful white ee roo. very docile and nice.. not noisy so far..

and while we were gone one of my isa browns that was born 3/18.. grew in her big red comb and waddles, and now i can really see the others starting to grow theirs faster to.. my dd said she thought one of the leghorns squated for her when she went in the coop. so that is good news. i guess i should probably get their nest boxes ready soon.. dont they squat for about 3 wks b4 they actually lay. or is it different for every pullet.. here is a exact replica of the roo.. got this pic off internet also..

hope everyone is enjoying their summer..
not a whole lot happening here.

I was out back sickling some tall weeds down and I whac a mole.. Didnt realize it till i seen it on the ground twitching.. scared me because i wasnt expecting to see it.. well that will teach him to get in my way.. not sure how i did it, i figured maybe it was hiding in the tall grass i cut down..

My poor little Spaz refuses to leave the coop. Bigboy must've really traumatized her...or maybe she is sick....?
Just standing on the roosting bar with face in corner (or sometimes I see her sitting on it).

I'm Looking for 2 Nice quality friendly Silkies. Either 2 hens or a hen and roo. Lots of fluf. Any color. Preferably some what grown, but if the chicks are from nice parents that would also work.

Also looking for BLR Wyandottes. A few hens and a maybe a roo. Chicks would work also.

My international search breeds are in my signature, I'm looking for those in the form of either Chickens/Chicks/Eggs.

I'm on the US10 line in Michigan.

PM me if you have anything I'm looking for, thanks!
Try RIRJen or RBahmer. Both have some really nice silkies.

Does anyone want some chicken wire...free? Just need someone to take it down for me. It's about 6 ft tall but I don't know how long it is. I could measure it if anyone is interested. I am guessing maybe 35 feet? It's still in good condition.
