Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I know this is a long shot but anything worth a try.
Roosters in need of homes:
1. Golden laced polish bantam
2. Black breasted red OEGB
3. Silver duck wing OEGB
All are very people friendly. Just don't fit into my program. I am located near Battle Creek. Thank you.

I hate to say it, especially when a roo is friendly, but sometimes the only place to place them is the freezer. Most people only need a roo or two for their flock of gals. I know I had a male heavy year this year so I've just been culling them as soon as I can sex them.

I will be butchering all of the roos and turkeys that I won't need in the next few weeks... Might be about 10 of them. I am downsizing my flock a lot.

Bella's first calf Maybelle went in heat on Tuesday, so my friends from where I work came over Wednesday morning and AI her. Hopefully it caught, and we will see a little bouncy calf in 9 months!!! If she went in heat again in a few weeks, then we will have to AI her again, but hopefully we don't have too. Maybelle is 50% Lowline Angus, so that is what we used to breed her, so her calf will be 75% Lowline Angus. Lowlines are like a mini version of a standard Angus, but far more practical to raise than the standard Angus. They eat less, and produce more beef per acre than the standard ones. The father of the calf lives in Australia, so half of the calf made quite a trip across the world!

Maybelle is almost 16 months old, so she will not be get much bigger than what she is now.

Are you a long distance nut then? LOL.

I think my Texas may actually be a english orp... or mixed... She be me fatty grrrl.

That was supposed to be "but" not "nut". In my defense the B and N keys are next to each other and I have big fingers. And I was tired. It was dark. The chicks were distracting me.

Oh well, typos can be humourous.

either way fits!

I think this is my prettiest roo to date. All black with gold feathers....... and eyebrows, black eyes and skin! The gold feathers above his eye are on both eyes, and no feathers except small ones between them and his cape. He follows me everywhere.

Slow day on the thread. Let's see if we can get chatty.

Anyone for chick pictures? (Even if they are tinted red from the heat lamp?)

Now for the discussion...
The smaller chick (Hobbs) was splay legged so I used the self stick athlete tape to correct. I wrapped on Wednesday evening and just took it off a few minutes ago (~48 hours of being hobbled). Initially the legs were fairly close but the tape didn't entirely hold and the leg spread was a tad wider than when I started.
Hobbs moves around just fine but that left leg tends to want to move outboard under excited (running) conditions. While standing still, walking and calm movement, both legs are fully under the chicks body.

So for discussion, should I retape the legs? If so, when? Immediately or wait for a few hours?

BTW, the 3 eggs that did not hatch were infertile.
