Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Well I won't have to worry about the elbow surgery interfering with fishing this week.  I had thought that it would be performed today in the office, but today was only a consult and for the surgery it needs to be performed in a hospital operating room.  Probably so they can charge a lot more money.  I don't know why it can't be done with just a local.  I don't like be put under.

So now I have to go on the 24th for a pre-op interview and the surgery on the 30th.  Sure doing my part to help the medical profession stay in business.  I'm waiting to hear from both the ortho surgeon and the vein specialist to find out the prognosis for the old knees and hips.  I have my first appointment with the arthritis specialist on the 31st and who knows where that will lead.

Oh, Opa.. So sorry. I know you wanted this taken care of. As you know I had the same surgery back in 2010; after 3 unsuccessful attempts at simply draining it. And I have had no recurrence since that procedure/surgery.

Mine was done in the Ortho's office .. With what they called a "twilight" anesthesia. The way the propofol knocked me out it might as well have been a "full".

Well I sure hope you can get some good fishing in this week as looks like you are pretty darned booked keeping those docs busy next week :/

and........ sometimes the longer you wait the harder it is to recover, older bodies don't recover as quickly as younger ones..... that's my take on it. Why suffer if it's not healing on it's own.

Good luck Sam and chickflick on your pending surgeries!

Sunday morning, I hopped in my hot tub for a soak... and shortly after, Gino started barking toward the tree line in pict below (he's such a good boy). So I watch along the tree line and lo and behold, I see a dude in camo is working his way along the trees toward my property and he briefly disappears. He showed back up a few seconds later going back the other direction from my property, no bow in hand!! I know they hunt along their field/trees. Well, it made me a tad uncomfortable now cause (I had nothing on) I don't know if they saw me open the tub and were trying too get a better view or if they were just hunting/trespassing..... but when I saw him leaving I did yell something about not trespassing... so he knew, I knew he was there.

I hate trespassers...so we decided we needed to put up some signs. We went on the GIS site for the county and looked at the description to verify our property lines........ and..... we think we discovered a problem. When I got the land years ago, I got it as is and couldn't afford a survey... well now I think we have to get one. Upon reading our descriptions, and the descriptions of the two parcels next to us...something isn't right!

Anyway, we went out to the stake between our house and pond (black star) that is an established marker for the county/sections and we measured to the line in question (black arrow to blue line). According to the measurements...and the aerial photo online (which appears accurate by our measurements too) We may have more property than we thought!

The blue line is our property line as shown on the GIS site.. the Purple line is where the neighbors fence and field are in the aerial photo overlay. (everything else lines up in the photo where we measured and in other areas)... the arrow, is showing 220.38 ft where we measured to. So it's more straight (green line to blue line) and that small jog along the red tree line......... may be wrong! So, if this is true, then, we own about 16' into the hunter/creeper guys field and... a wedge of property from the other neighbor as well.

I'm going to put signs up where they would be on our land anyway.. but now we need to get it surveyed so we can put up some fencing in the future. I'm sure it's going to cause some issues if we're right.. we could be wrong and that jog in the line may be more over on our land or more straight on the purple to blue line... but either way we need to know. One surveyor we talked to said it looks like it should be straight after looking at the descriptions (without me saying what was wrong). So I kinda hope I'm right.. I hate trespassers and creepers even more!

In my unfortunate experience with bad neighbors and property lines, it's a blurry line. They can get a survey that says most of that wedge is theirs and you can get a survey that say's most of it is yours. BUT, it's usually only a couple of feet difference at the most. So likely, some of that 16' is yours. But don't be surprised if there is a discrepancy.

That's just my limited experience with surveys and neighbors though. You might be right.

Opa, good luck with your surgery.

Honestly, I wouldn't leave ANY young dog alone with chickens. There's a lot of threads about training dogs to be tolerant of chickens with several different methods if you do a search. Impulse control is hard and IMO comes with age. "Leave it" seems to be a really common starting place.

I very much like Kikopup on YouTube fore general training and the first thing she works on is " not mugging the hand" since she trains with a clicker and doesn't want her trainees to think its ok to snap or maul her hand to get the reinforcer.
Thanks, I will look her up, could have watched her already, I thought the clicker was a great idea, bought a clicker and while I was trying it out it quit, ....thought ...this is not good, if it doesn't work all the time ,it may not work when you really need it, such as car coming or leave the chickens alone,. from now on he is tied to me when out if the chickens are free ranging,

getting old really stinks, don't know why they call them the golden yrs unless you have to be made of gold to be able to afford all the medical treatments and office visits.
DH has a problem with vision, went to the eye Dr. and he thinks it could be serious so he has an apt. with a specialist Nov. 5th, Just had cataract surgery last yr. all excited, he can hit the target a gain, and now this, said he may have to learn how to shoot with his left hand if he goes blind in the rgt. eye, told him not to worry, 2 of our kids and 2 of my brothers have been blind in 1 eye almost since birth, and they do fine. course at 75 it is a little harder to adjust still better then the alternative

Good thing I made that soup. I fly to and back from NYC the same day so that I don't miss work. Normally, I catch an evening flight home. Today, I ended up on the 1:35pm flight home. Havibg just landed at 9:20am, followed by 2 seperate cab rides which did not help, my motion sickness showed its face just before landing back in Chicago. I am completely embarrassed, but I feel bad for the 2 guys sitting in my row, since they got 'front row seats' to the show, so to speak. At least I got the bag out in time.

This is why it is extremely important to not fly twice so close together if you are even remotely nauseated.

My fresh soup is trying to settle my tummy since the 3-hour drive after the flight did not help mucj, either.

the clicker is just to tell them that they've done something good. so if a car was coming and you called the dog and it came back, you would click and treat. And you don't *have* to use a clicker, just a consistent reinforcer......it can be a word, you can click a pen, or any distinctive sound that is easy to replicate. she also has a website (dogmanitcs) that will link all of her youtube videos and I think that's a big easier to navigate than browsing all of her videos. it's just one approach, but I have found that my dogs and foster dogs catch on pretty quickly for basic manners, and you can work it all the way up to really advanced stuff.
