Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

No ice at all around the city but we are under a flood warning. The thermometers are reading 33 and 37 degrees with 90% humidity. Those are prime conditions for frostbite. Good thing I don't have to worry about that kind of thing.

If you must go out in these icy conditions, please be cautious.
Throw a bag of scratch in the trunk for some extra traction. If you do get stuck you can throw the scratch under the drive wheels.

We are specifically looking for green and/or blue egg layers. How far north are you?
I am 2 hrs north of BayCity.. on US 23.. if that gives you some idea i live in Oscoda..

Its a blizzarding here this am.. so glad i went out yesturday and got the rest of my holiday shopping done.. and also got 3-50lb bags of layer for the chickens.. was pretty low.. now it can snow all it wants i dont need to go anywhere.

Everyone stay warm and drive carefull if you have to go out in this weather.

Ibrykowski- your jelapeno & chedder kielbasa sounds yummy.. our big meat grinder the 3/4 hp one from cabelas came the other day.. i pulled out some venison and bacon and we ground it up.. and the burgers were pretty tasty. plan on making some sausages.. do you do your own seasoning or do you buy it. i ordered a sausage seasoning for now.. plan on making some sausage in casing soon..

Got Granny loaded up in the truck and took her to church only to find that they have cancelled services for today. The fact that no one bothered to call did cause me to think less than christian thoughts for just a moment. The main roads aren't bad but I'd bet the secondary ones are. Also the church parking lot was a skating rink so I understand why the cancelled but a call would have been nice. Since only one other person showed up while we were there I guess their call network only has a few gaps in it.

Hope is going out to water the birds in a few minutes. Not being allowed to go near the birds because of my incision still being open certainly puts a hardship on the family. Their having to do my chores is really starting to irk me.

Trying to post pix I took earlier. Internet REALLY slow & spotty. But at least we have power. DH just left a little earlier than planned so that he could drop our spare generator at a friend's; they are not as fortunate at the moment ...

@uchytil Can you bring your KC inside for Epsom Salt bath? Let her dry out proper before you put her back outside tho.
@Opa how long did drs tell you to avoid chores? Bless your family for helping out.
Everyone: Sorry for those without power. Mine has been flickering, but is on. I'm going to stay inside and try to get some more cookies baked today! Merry Christmas everybody.

Opa I am sure that your family does not mind in the least being able to help you out for a change - and they also benefit from all those lovely eggs. You are not ready for the Old Roosters Home yet. Take care of that wound until it heals properly.

Snowing like crazy here, great big fat flakes blowing around in the brisk wind. Some friends borrowed my tractor yesterday to do a wagon ride for their church. While they brought the tractor back, they neglected to put the snowblower back on - you always seem to need something just when it is NOT ready. Since we are at near-blizzard right now, no doubt we will need it today.
