Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

will you share your recipe? That sounds so good

And, really easy to make (hardest part is dicing dried cherries). Will also post under "Recipe" album under profile.

It is readable if you click on photo & go into gallery mode....

Beautiful Christmas Eve Today. Outside, the ice is making bizarre sounds that are really quite loud! Peace on Earth, Love, Harmony and Joy to All of You & Your Flocks. And to those who aren't here now due to power outage... Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2014!
I hope that wasn't a chicken frozen up in that tree Daughter had one lose his foot in an ice storm, froze to the tree

Christmas treat for the chickens.......rolled oats laced with Kefir, garlic, paprika, squash seeds and tiny tomatoes, with baked squash on the side

I did have VERY good luck using the minted chapstick. I have even used the medicated kind in the past; whatever i had on hand that would get the blood to flow! I also learned that bag balm has camphor in it, which stimulates circulation too! Which is essentially what my chapstick did. :) .....

Out of a ton of reading most everyone said to use the non "cain" triple antibiotic ointment on the area, Rubbing is actually bad, whoops.; no hot baths for sure, no blow drying them, just lukewarm/ warm cloths if anything so they thaw slowy. Scratch the medicated water idea since if there is any other infection other than surface it would be gangrene, so....... But likely just the thawing did this. :( I also didn't realize that it was common for dogs and cats to get it as well! Best to you for the holidays. http://blog.stevensveterinary.com/blog/bid/267863/Recognizing-Frostbite-in-Your-Pet

Just checking in, first time getting online for a bit. We are still without power, since Sat. Been ****** he!!ish, cold, cold and frigid and cold. No fireplace, wood stove or generator. Chickens have snow for water, 50 gal. tropical fish tank all dead. Freezers completely thawed. Shipped the kids to St. Johns. That is all, carry on.

P.S. Hope everyone's holiday is good.

Fish tank :( but freezers??? How is it everything but the freezers are frozen??? some kind of sick irony there. I wish i was able to help, even if it were just for some water and a bit of thawing. I would, you know. Lived in a camper once; had no where else to go for a bit. Late fall when the windows iced and i didn't have heat......... oh the feeling of sun on the face! Something you can't appreciate fully until you've nearly given in to hypothermia even with sleeping bags....... are you anywhere near coopersville?

Merry Christmas all!

Since frostbite is more likely when moisture is present at cold temps, neither "tightening up" the coop or adding heat is likely to help prevent it - more likely, those steps would increase the risk factors, by increasing the moisture in the air and keeping it in the coop by limiting ventilation.

Merry Christmas! Finally done hiding the hedgehog!

My poor DH had to work again....the snow just couldn't take the day off. At least 5 new inches this afternoon and it's still coming down heavy.
I have moved my frosted rooster to the basement. Nothing has turned black on his wattles and no one else...even the Basque with his huge wattles...has any problems, so I don't know what is going on. I don't think there is much moisture in that particular coop. Everything is frozen solid and they have the eaves open for ventilation. I have two small coops that I worry about more when it comes to ventilation. I will keep him in and keep watching him since I'm not sure what's up.
Lady, I sure wish we lived closer to help out. Unfortunately it will be a Christmas you won't forget for the wrong reasons.

Awwwwwww! I just melted into a puddle of mush. Will he stay that small? He's so cute! If i didn't know you'd gotten a real one i'd swear he was a really nice stuffed toy!!!

*and as an aside, he kinda matches your carpet! Have to watch that one ;)
