Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I have some fertile buff orpington eggs if you want some ;-)
I also have a beautiful buff orpington roo if you want to use his "services" it might give my girls a break!
Thanks RTF. I might try hatching some fertile eggs.

I won't be up your way for a couple of weeks though.

I don't know if could let her go that long, since she's really not wanting to eat as much. If I did come up would I bring her for services for a day? or how would we do that? Anyway sounds like a good idea.

No need to borrow a roo - I will GIVE you one. For FREE.
Thanks for the offer, but if I bring a roo home I may be sleeping out in the coop with the chickens!

Tap, I was reading a thread where a member told about a show rooster that died suddenly, he was her #1 breeder and a truly great bird - she had an autopsy done and they found a pea in his respiratory tract.  She sounds to me more like an obstruction than an infection, unfortunately if that is true there is not much you can do

How is the hedgehog?

Crap. Same as the new hen i bought at the start of winter. I'd know that sound anywhere......No idea at the moment of what the name of the ailment is, but she needs tylan. Half a ml squirted into the beak is what i did to fix mine, and i put a whole ml into every gallon of water for the flock to keep it from spreading. I used a needle-less syringe from rite-aid.  5 days and she'll be good as new  :)

On the hen front, she isn't making any noise this evening, so I have no clue what is going on. I did email the poultry vet with video so maybe I can get some idea from him. If she is making noise again in the morning I will start her on antibiotics.

Hedgehog is doing well and getting friendlier and just too cute!

I found a pullet egg!
yesss.gif
My coop of pullets (and injured roo) has FINALLY produced an egg! I'm pretty sure it's either from my BLRW pullet (who is over 30 wks old) or my SS pullet. BLRW is a lot more red through the face though. Now to get her roo feeling better. He moved around the nest box, awkardly, but he MOVED which is hasn't done without me poking at him. So yay! Possibly improving roo, and a new layer! WOO HOO!

I have not gotten an egg from my chickens in two months. :( My mom finally broke down and brought store eggs. I have been trying to avoid that stuff.

Yeah, if you lived near me we'd get em' together!  I think my window of opportunity is over unless she goes into heat again in Jan?

If your doe goes in heat again, I got a 75% beor, 12.5% Alpine, 12.5% Lamancha buck that you can borrow. He is not a year old yet, but he bred 4 does.

I got my wife a nice book about raising pigs.  Might be making the move this spring on a few feeders.  By he way who don't like bacon, lol.  My son and his GF got us tickets to Bacon Boot Camp in GR Jan 14.  Sounds a little hipster but we'll try and have fun!

I will have piglets available in the spring. :D

Congrats on pullet eggs!!
Got a couple here too, have 3 pullets (now hens?) 7 months old, not sure which ..but one pullet egg for sure (it was very small) and think another cause it's different shape and color than 5 older hens...some of which may still be finishing up a molt.
Whatever, whoever...sure is nice to have more eggs the past few days!
