Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

That's wonderful that you adopted them! Most people wouldn't adopt a feral cat. Our kitty adopted us when she was a young lil girl. She showed up on our deck one day in the cold and has been with us ever since. She knew I was a sucker for animals...

Oh, yeah! & surrounded by snow like an igloo now!

OMG!!! The PLOW truck is STUCK in our drive. And, didn't realize, but there are 2 trucks working on things. The bigger, stronger one is stuck!
OIC, nice! How do you keep the snow off the top of that run, doesn't look like you can get at it?

The bigger heavier truck...OhMan!

Sooo grateful I don't have to be out working in this weather.

OH NOOOOOO!

BTW, you have a beautiful coop/pen!
Thanks, I can't take any credit for anything but the paint job; main coop done by a guy in Ohio; then a DEAR BYC friend built the pen extension for me this summer

Well, I didn't realize it..BUT, the plow guys have been here since 0630; two trucks. AND, the big one is stuck again, they just broke their tow strap; DH just took one of our straps out; but it is much smaller than theirs...

This is horrid....

I put on all my snowmobile gear & used a push broom. Yes, at times I was waist deep, but plenty warm in my attire! Also, it wasn't quite that bad around pen, 1. Before I took the mega-snow off and, 2. before the drifting (pen faces South..& winds were from SW).

My barn cat is missing too and I am quite worried for her :( She had a sad story too- apparently someone found her in a dumpster outside of a recycling business and tried to domesticate her without success. So she got all fixed up and came to live here in my barn since being a house cat is just out of the question for her. I hope all our barn cats return.

Well the ducks here are very very quiet. No eggs either, which is a bit of a shock after the huge ramp-up in production since Solstice.

I've taken our hot water but have not yet opened up the door or offered food. Going to do that here in a few.

Does anyone have one of those thermometers that transmit over distances? How far is the range on them? I'm needing one and wonder if it would be possible to find one to read from inside the house? TIA on that.

Hope your plow truck gets rescued PK. DH said we need a track driven bulldozer. At this rate, we have not seen Genesee County plow trucks here, don't know whether to expect them or not? Any reports on that people? I saw in Saginaw County y'all can go to their website and click someplace and see exactly where their trucks are at in real time-- how cool is that? And DH reported to me that Shiawassee County had plowed I think it was early Sunday am already. My toes are still tingly from being out earlier, I feel for everybody who is outside today. Stay warm y'all and bundle up!

I hope all of everyone's kitties are ok...

No eggs for me yet today either, & I usually have 3 by 0830/0900. I am just glad they are all ok after last night & running around their "igloo".

I simply can't believe what a mess our driveway is....these guys have been going at it since 06:30; just when he gets un-stuck, stuck again. I think I will quit posting "Yeah, unstuck"; I think it is bad luck!

All my hens are doing great! I did bring the bantams into the heated garage. Just eases my mind and a lot easier to care for them. Gave them all scratch and topped off their water. Won't be shoveling their run till later in the week. It's not that bad since I shoveled it 3 times on Sunday.

Stay warm and safe!

BRR BRR BRRRR... That is all.

LadyR - Happy late birthday.

Haven't seen my chickens or goats in days. They refuse to come outside when it's this cruddy. We gave them all a ton of extra straw bedding & haven't seen fur or feather from either. I know they're still there cuz DH keeps bringing in the eggs. LOL. DH has been doing the farm chores & says they're doing fine (now that we caught the mink anyways). Thanks to DH... he bears the cold much better than I do. I completely understand the chickens & goats not wanting to leave the house. Ta heck with that, I'm a wuss.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes :)

My chickens all made it through the night but then I realized that our temperature wasn't as low as most of the rest of Michigan, owing to the West wind off the lake. It was 1° when I woke this morning, MUCH warmer than my family in Monroe Co. who are still WELL below zero at even this hour. We trade lake effect snow for warmer temps. DH had to park at the end of the driveway last night when he got home from work and got stuck there. It took him quite a while to dig himself out this morning.

I hope everyone's barn cats return and that they just found a warmer place to stay. I counted all six and the kitten of ours at breakfast this morning. Mine curl up together in weather like this. There's a bin of old sheep's wool in the barn that they snuggle in frequently. The sheep are fine of course. They don't even slow down in this weather, except that there's a huge drift in front of their door leading outside so they are stuck inside for the while.

That frost in the photos I posted was on the storm windows. We do have them. They're just seriously old. We replaced some windows upstairs last year but to do all the windows in the house is cost prohibitive. We have A LOT of windows.
