Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

The GAAMPs are the tools that describe who and what is protected by the law. In recent years, after small operations successfully used RTF in court to keep their operations in business there has been a movement by MDARD, Farm Bureau, big ag and local governments to prevent small operations. Especially backyard chickens.

If the GAAMPs are changed anyone who is not big ag in a specifically zone Agriculture setting will lose the protection of the Law.

Historical footnote:
The RTF law was written FOR big ag/big business by the group known as ALEC. It was bought and paid for by those special interests for just a select few. That a real citizen is using the law is quite galling to them.

Thank you..NOW, I am tracking. Needed your first sentence to tie the 2 together. Interesting footnote, too..

Last night I set my alarm for 5am just in case I wasn't awake so that I could take Hope to her son's. So I awoke, grabbed a cup of coffee, read the BYC posts, and worked two crosswords while she got ready. Only after putting on my boots, hat, and coat does she inform me that since the roads are clear and the temperature is about zero she will be driving herself. Most mornings I am awake by 5am without an alarm but this morning I was really sleeping soundly when the alarm went off. Now I'm trying to decide if I should sit here and read or go back to bed.

Reading the posts regarding RTF reminds me on my son David's favorite Ronald Reagan quote "Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem". To often it seems that what is supposed to protect us is our worst problem.

It was nice to read a post by that "lard lovin' lady", it's been far to long since we've heard from her. Hopefully many of the others that we haven't heard from in a long time are quietly reading in the background and will once again start posting. At the very least I'd love to hear that they are doing well. There are so many who were posting when I joined BYC that we no longer hear from. Hmmm, wonder if I scared them off?

I saw this post on FB. Is the chicken a mutt or a breed of some sort? I'm sure I'm a little late, seems now we are talking about GAAMP's :p Seems we have new people on the thread. Welcome :) ETA: did the chicken find her owners or did someone take her in?

the GAMPS are very confusing to read, and understand, But I do believe Gov. (run by big buis ) is trying to get rid of all small farms and hobby farms. I have a friend that owns an orchard, the regulations and paper work that has been required of them this yr. is daunting. Her DH is ready to call it quits. They had to pay extra people to spend weeks trying to comply with the new regulations. and just barely got it done on time tried to pass reg. or test of some kind to be listed as Nat. farm.. some of the points they got marked down on were "not greeting the tester at the door personally" having a small patch of dead Queen Ann's Lace growing next to the storage area (some one could plant a bomb there?)
If it takes weeks for those that have been in farming all their lives to fill out paper work and pass regulations, You know they can make it impossible for us hobbiest to comply

As for the tracks, if you see a tail drag mark behind the tracks most likely Opossum. I have seen a # of them out this month,,,to cold they should be hibernating ??

The dog in need of a home is very pretty.

Opa, you can say that again!! Gov._is__ the problem.

That is just unconscionable... And, yet, just this morning I was reading an article in USAToday about a Poultry processing plant in California that FINALLY got shut down cuz the USDA inspectors left..due to infestation of cockroaches (8 Jan being the FOURTH time they were written up). Apparently, "BIG" business processing cannot operate if Inspectors are not physically in the plant. BUT, that wasn't the amazing thing to me in the article; the SCARY part was the USDA didn't seem to want to close them down after over 400 people have become sick with eColi...but did over this cockroach thing..but not until after writing them for the fourth time... I am "condensing" the article... http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...ckroaches-foster-farms-chicken-plant/4382217/ My point being that here we have an example of a small operation in trouble for a "greeting" & "queen anne's lace" violation; yet we keep seeing all these horrific conditions at big business operations...that are literally making people sick &, in some cases, die... And they wonder why so many of us want to grow/procure our own food?????

And they wonder why so many of us want to grow/procure our own food?????

They are afraid of all of us producing and growing our own food. Big business wants dependency and will do anything with the clout they sling in the government to get what THEY want. Never mind curbing safety all in the name of huge profit....

I will continue to seek ways to grow my own food stuff due to who knows what is in our food supply or where it even comes from???

Please help me identify this critter.
