:welcome

So, I just took the wool liner out of my coat as it's gonna be 60 here in Maryland today. As I was doing it, I was thinking. At this time last Monday I woke up to almost 2' of snow, work was shut down and by 0800 the windchill was -40. That is a 100 degree temp swing!!!!!

Would someone pretty-please repost the date of Chickenstock 2014? I went back about 4 days but didn't find it. :) Thanks!

Also - I work at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market on Saturdays (selling cheese and chocolates) and lately have been wondering if anyone here is there also. I know there are a lot of egg and meat vendors…. Are any of them you? :D

Welcome Chase Family!!!

The birds all came out a lil while with the sun out yesterday, sure they were glad to stretch their wings. Found them checking out the duck run and the ducks were in the chicken run. Just like kids, I think they check to see if I gave something more to the other one. lol Hoping for some early sun so they can get out awhile again, before we get rain later and snow tom.

Happy Monday!!!

RAZ - I'm unable to get out of work on Wednesday.
Landlord coming for a visit with the owner of our building... so I can't not be here.
I really wanted to attend the meeting in Lansing. I'll make it a point to write a letter.

Good evening everyone....... I'm new to this thread and wanted to say hi. And ask a question. Is there anyone between Lansing and Ann Arbor that would be will to teach me how to process meat birds. I don't have any yet but would like to get some. I have read and watched online a lot but am so afraid I will do it wrong or worse freak out the first time and kill the bird slowly or just injure it.
Thank you
I am in Jackson area.. kinda in the middle. I'd be happy to show you what we do. We have a bunch of birds to process though I don't know when we'll be doing it. PM me if you're interested.

I have pictures and another crazy story. First the Polish.

This is Peep, she has a totally different attitude when she can see.

This is Curly who frosts up the most because of her beard.

This is Pippin who you can see has had a rough winter with frostbit wattles and bluekoted head. He is the one that his wattles swelled up like balloons.

Now for my story. Yesterday my son was invited to friends to snowmobile as a group. We dropped him off and decided to run to town to save two trips later in the week. It of course took longer than planned and we got back after dark. Dh drove the car over to the coop to make things easier with the lights on. I see two cochins out in the plowed area and knew something was up. I took them to the coop and went to the first yard to close pop doors only to discover chickens everywhere. I went and told DH I needed to get boots and a flashlight because something was wrong. So back we all went, me with boots, gloves and flashlight, son with spotlight and hubby with the shotgun. 1st coop all's well, 2nd coop missing birds, 3rd coop hanging food container is knocked down and one rooster looks roughed up. I'm closing 3rd coop when hubby opens 4th coop, yells possum and shoots. The possum was standing outside the pop door and DH shot through the coop.

We then had to gather up a dozen chickens and a guinea who where roosted everywhere in the yard, on the fence and in trees.
This morning I removed Mr. Possum and cleaned up the yard. Here he is awaiting further removal while I cleaned and Fred and several hens were not pleased with his presence.
