Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Wow. I have to ask, what's wrong with real fertilizer? Not every farmer out there is trying to stick it to you. We have to make a living to and what else are we supposed to do with the poop?

Unfortunately due to location circumstances (city encroaching on rural) it may not be possible to have pastured land on which to raise the cattle. Some of us third generation farmers are just trying hang on before we too fall under the weight of BIG AG.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with any kind of fertilizer. It wasn't about the kind of fertilizer. I just found it extremely timely that as I was trying to explain what GAAMPS were to my FB friends (most of whom probably had never heard of it before), that the manure spreader came by and it made a good visual aid for my point - that the large dairy was protected by the GAAMPS while if I have a nasty neighbor who complains about me, I'm going to be screwed because I have no protection under the GAAMPS if they're changed this year. That's not fair the way I see it, especially if the neighbor blames my farm for the stink that the larger farms, who are protected, create. Right now it's obvious but sometimes you can't tell where the smell comes from. I don't want to be a victim of that and it's a very real possibility.

Raz, about neighbourly stuff, noisy chickens and "STUFF"

We used to have a problem neihbour with barking dogs. I didn't mind so much during the day, but I didn't like being woken up at 2 am. Last summer, Himself bought some outdoor speakers. The house was already wired for speakers, indoors and out, so it wasn't hard to hook them up.

I have some bagpipe music, some good and some horrible! My house is well insulated. I can barely hear music on the outside speakers when I'm indoors. I thought of getting some rooster crowing sounds! And for those who can't keep chickens, and have complaining neighbours, perhaps crowing noises would be appropriate, for when those those nasty inspector people come round. You can demonstrate you love of chickens by playing "cackles and crows", very loud. But not above local noise levels. They can't make you get rid or your "music". Of course, it would probably upset nasty neighbours.

Luckily, our neighbour got the not so subtle hints. I kept calling him in the middle of the night. He moved.

I missed it... :(   I'm sure you did great Raz!

I missed it, too :(
1. Cuz I'm still in Maryland and, 2. Was still in class at that time so couldn't even try to listen to it streaming (if available).

The "parakeet" part sounds funny!!

Ah...I should be home by midnight :D
Then I get to leave again for Alabama a week from Sunday...this time I'll be gone for TWO weeks :(
Sure I hope I can get Spaz back outside with the others during the 7 days I am home....:/

@ladyrsanti -Made the eclairs, camera on phone not working, but mine didn't turn out quite as nice as your's and I slightly burnt the bottoms. However, they're all gone.

Thanks for sharing the recipe. I want to get a piping bag, I think that would make it easier, but man were they delish!!

I have a few discs out in lower back and almost impossible to sit long, so been doing alot of cooking. Having a hard time with the chickens, but yeah I get my injection today!!! I got 7 eggs out of 8 girls yesterday for 1st time, so I think their all done molting and hopefully all back to laying or maybe cuz it's been a lil warmer out?

Does anyone recommend Meyer Hatchery? They are advertising that they now have true Americauna and I wanted to order 1 or 2, would love to add blue eggs with my green and pink ones. Was thinking 1 or 2 Marans for the chocolate eggs also. Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Meyer is probably going to charge you $20+ for them and that's fine if you want to pay that much. Over in birch run there's a well known and respected Ameraucana breeder that lists his extras as culls (wrong leg color etc) on Craigslist and you could go pick them up. Pretty sure he lists on Thursdays and you have to call and make an appt to pick them up.

Overall I was happy with Meyer but they did screw up my order 2 times out of 3. Missing chicks, wrong number of chicks, and so on. I ordered speckled Sussex from them twice and didn't get them the first time and all of them died on the re-ship. Their customer service was very nice though.
