Winter comes with a variety of problems we have to deal with. Carrying water out to the birds, frozen eggs, higher utility bills, shoveling snow, frostbite, the list of all we dislike about winter can soon become huge. So instead of complaining about what I dislike about winter I thought I'd list what I like about it. Hmmm, with -14 showing as the current temperature and snow predicted for this afternoon, I'm having trouble trying to think of a reason to be thankful. Oh yeah I just thought of something......global warming.

Ok. I needed that laugh! Well, my car has been running for 15 mins now, should be about 0 degrees in it...time to start my 60 mile trek to the office.....

It is minus 5 here.

So does that mean it is twice as warm? If we do the math, (-15) x twice (2) gives us (-30). That doesn't work.
Maybe it is that Celsius - Fahrenheit debate. Let's see. (-15 F = -26 C). (-5 F = -20 C). The numbers are closer but they seem even colder.

You know it is cold when you get a brain freeze with your morning coffee.

Well, it is downright BALMY here at work (Warren)..a rockin' +3!!! 20 degrees warmer than at home!!

Oh...Opa, I think the "PC" term now is "Climate Change" !!!!

Hope everyone is staying warm today.. -16 in Davison as I headed in to work.
.... I posted this in the free section, but thought I might have a audience closer to home here.

I have two 5 month old pullets, a Golden Buff and a Columbian Wyandotte. I need to thin my current bird flock. Neither have started laying yet, and both are from Meyer Hatchery. Would like to find a good local home for them...currently in the Flint, MI area.

The mostly yellow was my 1st pair, those I will rip an reknit. The striped version is a thermal st and I did the flap by kifb of half, then slipping those to holder.

@ladyrsanti just beautiful. I like your pattern. Those are very cute and I like the way you did the flap very much.

At first when you mentioned getting 5,500 birds, I thought you personally!  Had to re-read that!  ;P

Our TSC store kindly told us the same thing; harmful to both humans and chickens.  And quite understandable.  Toddlers can hardly be trusted with cats & dogs sometimes let alone something so squishy.  I guess it'll like having a real baby -- you don't get to pick that out…you get what you get and you don't throw a fit! : )

My kids handle our chicks.my Three year old does better with them than my 10 year old. Part nature part nurture I say so not all children are animal squishing machines. If you train them they can handle animals. I believe people children included will behave to the bar set for them.

i have some hatching about the 17 th I would be willing to give you three. They are a RIR x leghorn. Or i have some silver laced. And then i have some brown layer crosses i have been working on. But if you are looking for egg layers, i would let you have three. Im near gr

A balmy 8 degrees here, grateful it's not colder.
Supposed to get another 3-5" in the next 24 hours, grateful it's not more.
Bi-hourly egg and water checks today, grateful I can do that as I don't have to go anywhere today.
Pot roast in the cooker and other goodies to cook, grateful that I did a supply run yesterday in the sun warmed van.
It stinks to not have a steady job, but am grateful that I don't have that long commute anymore.
Yep filled with gratitude today after 3 weeks in excruciating back pain, I can finally move without flinching and do more than the basic chores.

Fodder to feed today provides a green eye candy in this winter bleakness.

It's 3 here this morning, 21 degrees warmer than yesterday so I guess it's good, well not good but better.

Fuzzy I have a hen with an injured leg who can not stand or walk well and no apparent injuries.

Thank you for the diaper links, 1mutt I think that will work. I have today off and will see if I can come up with a diaper.

Raz I finally sent out my emails to all the commissioners. I hate writing letters if I feel I don't totally understand everything. I kept it short and sweet and only talked about the changes I did understand.

I have an incubator questions. My incubator is the type that is foam with a plastic liner with a wire sheet on top of it. I was digging it out yesterday, just to look mind you! It must not have been totally dry when I put it away last year. The wire on the bottom has rust spots on it. I cleaned it all again but they do not come off. Do you think this would affect the hatching?
