Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

My middle son's birthday is the day before mine, and most years we share a cake. This year Hope decided to make each of us our own cake. It was a four layer yellow cake with an incredible frosting made from powdered sugar, sour cream, cream cheese, and frozen fresh coconut. The cake layers weren't much thicker than the layers of frosting and this is a cake that as the moisture from the frosting soaks into the cake it tastes better with age. However, when you have cake for breakfast, as an afternoon snack, and the as a dessert after supper I doubt if the cake will get much age to it.

Mmmm. Hope never disappoints! :)

I was looking for a recipe for an apple cabbage salad i made once in the nursing home. It was different than any of the recipes i have come across online. It had sliced apples, a little bit of coleslaw, and was in a mayonnaise/ sour cream base with both cider vinegar, and lemon juice, sugar, a very little salt?..... i remembered that i'd made it the day before and it had gotten light and bubbly, like a home made whip toppping with a touch of the sour cream.?

Anyway, while wandering the internet in search of my beloved recipe i looked up fermenting, since the concoction bubbled; and i found this fascinating site with a ton of information fermenting (of all things) chicken feed! And she has grain feed recipes.? Hmm. So i had to share.

Thanks guys, I have no idea what kind of cactus it is, but its a pain to get all the tiny needles out if you so happen to lightly bump it. Flowers are worth it. lol

Happy Birthday Opa!

Barley!
3 roos with comb frostbite and lost a hen. Otherwise everyone in the coops hanging in there. Have 3 heat lamps going. I hate the cold! I have 66 chickens, 7 dwarf bunnies, 7 mini horses and 2 barn kitties.
2 days ago, one of my does had some baby kits and they all froze. Poor baby bunnies.
So sorry, my rooster has frostbite on the top of his comb and the bottom of his wattle. I wish these guys could get a break, this has been an awful winter for them and us, but def them.
